Panthers Select Trevin Wallace LB - Pick 72, Round 3

Recommended Posts

Nothing illustrates the concept that there is a lot of misinformation on the internet more than using it to prepare for the draft.  Some clown like Kiper who is never held accountable for his suckage makes a statement that is not accurate or misleading.  That concept is repeated and rephrased and spread by other clowns seeking clicks.  Then the children of Crystal Meth go online to earn honorary, self-awarded doctorate degrees in NFL Draftology and use that credential to rise above all others and denounce or praise draft-related information by proclaiming all who disagree with you are inferior, blasphemous, gridiron offspring from inner city crack whores.....Where was I?  Oh yeah....Nah, not worth it.

I mean, from the third round on you should really take players that can maybe start now or be coached up to become a starter. Because our previous two coaching staffs have been completely inept, this staff shouldn’t think they can improve players and draft accordingly? They should give up and only draft ready to go starters in round 3-7?

There’s nothing to suggest the panthers fixate on high RAS score guys at a rate that’s abnormal, they finished middle of the pack last draft for average RAS score by team and whereas I cannot find the team by team average for the draft prior, the scores outside of Brandon smith and Amare barno-the two players people constantly use to prop this argument up-none of the players were anything other than “solid” and sometimes “average” athletically in that class

It seems far more likely that they are taking athletic but raw players in the 3rd and 4th round because those are the types of guys you typically find there, and that the rest of the league is doing the exact same thing

I also found this. So the whole “RAS obsession” point is indeed a fan manufactured talking point. It may potentially veer up post Tepper but as noted above, the last two classes have not been demonstrative of that.

Okay, we didn't get our Luke replacement guy. But we may well have our next Thomas Davis. We needed something to put some fight back in our defense. Morgan knows all about those guys, he was one of those guys.

I think this is right. I was thinking a lot of Will Witherspoon.

Morgan was too, I would assume.  I think Spoon was a third rounder as well.  I know that he and Morgan were best buds.

Everybody says “I just want them to draft BPA” until they don’t draft whatever player some mock draft says is BPA. One thing that is clear to me is that they are drafting BPA according to their own board, rankings, and evaluations, because RB and LB were certainly not the biggest needs. Most people here, myself included, just have draft crushes on some specific players based on extremely limited information. The teams have 10x the information we do and are looking at 10x the amount of players. That’s not to say they always get it right, it’s more to say the average fan getting it right is more akin to a dead clock being right 2x per day. And you really have no idea, if you were talking to Payton Wilson’s doctors and examining his medicals just like the team is, or sitting through the interviews, or getting direct information from a team of scouts, you may find yourself agreeing with the team more than you think.

It was painfully clear they wanted XL and Brooks. They made it happen while collecting a 2nd next year. Wallace is more than likely an Evero guy who will learn from Shaq this year and hopefully take over next year. He is raw but has everything you want in a ILB for the 3-4 defense we run.

I'm excited for our LB room after checking more of his stuff.  Also spent a minute looking back at Evero's work in 2022 in DEN with Jewell.

Jewell was the lone ILB in his penny fronts and played fantastic that year (unreal game against KC), and when they had Singleton in with him for their base cover 6/2-HS, they played so fast together with some real fun disguises and blitzes.  Seems like Trevin will be a great fit for Evero.

I don't know if Shaq's going to have the speed post-injury (especially at his age) so this is a really smart move and he could be our LB of the future (or sooner).  See no reason why this kid can't succeed in this environment and have an earlier impact than anticipated.

Still need another DB to help with our 5 and 6 DB packages, but this is a very strong move and I love the fit.

I would just be curious where they had him on the draft board with other linebackers.  It seemed to me like maybe they thought Junior Colson would still be there but he was snatched up by the Chargers  3 picks before that.  If Colson was supposed to be the guy then I think they messed up.  If Wallace was ahead of Colson on the board, then the trade down makes sense.

Precisely.  He's a really good fit.  Evero is finally getting the defense he wants.

He got his field captain back in Jewell, 2 dudes from his SB winning Rams defense in Robinson & Fuller, then brought in Hill who was there with him as well.

Horn is really nice for the Ramsay/Surtain role and they still need that extra DB for nickle and dime.  Jackson seems aight but an upgrade could really help.  Caelen Carson would be nice.

I don’t love Tuttle as a DE but he is serviceable and should play better there than NT like last year. Outside of that and what you mentioned it’s starting to resemble a decent Evero defense on paper.
