How the Carolina Panthers found themselves in the worst situation

Darnold had arguably the worst coaches in the NFL over the last 25 years. Bryce had two or three of the most renowned QB people in the league on his side last year.

maybe he figures it out, but the physical tools are not there. In order to succeed we will need a roster like the Dolphins and that doesn’t leave much room for defense, and defense still wins Super Bowls.

We had 3 of the most renowned QB people in the league? I’m assuming you are talking about Caldwell who coached Manning briefly (after he was already good similar to Adam Gase who coached Darnold), and is the other one Reich who used old Rivers, old Ryan, and tried to fix Wentz but couldn’t do it. I have no clue who the 3rd guy could possibly be? I think you are just a Darnold fan because he has a big arm. So did Jamarcus Russell, and Ryan Leaf. Shanahan let him walk and O’Connell was desperate to draft a QB after signing Darnold because these coaches know he isn’t the solution. Temporary starter/backup is what Sam is. He just doesn’t have the football IQ to be a franchise guy. Most QBs don’t.

It's just more excuses for a talented guy that has a ten cent football IQ. I will never understand why people do this but what do you do?

I understand some excuses to argue a point, but to say we had THREE of the most renowned QB coaches last year is pretty much a straight fabrication of the truth….

100%. It wouldn't matter if Sam Darnold had the three most talented coaches in NFL history, it wouldn't change his ability to read the field.

The NFL forced the team to be sold to David Tepper. It's been all downhill from there. It really is just that simple.

Yup, it really is that simple.  Tepper was not ready to be an NFL owner, maybe he never will be.  Dave simply had the money the NFL sought from a new owner and Tepper had an interest in buying a team.

It's been all downhill ever since.  One bungle, flub, misstep, boneheaded move after another. A comedy of errors and laughable to everyone else in the sports world except the Panthers emotionally wrecked fan base.

Dude is a debt collector. Fug them both. I asked why anyone cared about this guy at that time and all I got back was he was a local to some people so rah rah. Ok cool.

I agree about the JR part but I have zero reasons to care about Nevaro anymore than Tepper. His kid plays tennis and dad was an old coach. Cool. It's the NFL, they don't sell to great people and there is only 1 team run in the way I would be happy to see which the NFL will never allow again. IMO there was never a good option in that sale.

"Fug them both"... someday fans will learn that no one that owns an NFL franchise comes from the same mold as Mother Teresa. They're all incredibly wealthy, and get that way from being given "the bag" from family or being a ruthless mofo in the world of hostile takeovers and backstabbing mega deals.

The NFL doesn't care about suitability if you haven't noticed. They care about including as many of the wealthiest people on the planet as they can collect as owners. It helps protect the product in the long term.

Spot on. A great mechanic can hot rod a dodge dart.  But after they finish, it’s still gonna be a dodge dart.

They know who they are looking for. They will think a certain way. Globally.

edit: they are going to steal our game and make us watch soccar. That’s about half a joke.

So Sam Darnold is the current starter in Minnesota?

What a complete WTF of a start to a career.

Drafted by the Jets #3 overall.

Busted.

Traded to the Panthers for nothing.

Panthers exercise 5th year option for $19mil

Busts again in Carolina.

Signs with 49ers, competes with Brock Purdy for starter, ultimately beats out Trey Lance as backup.  Lance traded to Cowboys the next day.

Signs 1-year deal with Minnesota Vikings to replace Kirk Cousins for $10mil.

Named 2024 starter in Minnesota.

(I’m actually really rooting for the kid but wow, what a WTF start to a career.  He just turned 27 last month!)

It's a pretty weird setup with the Vikings. Darnold is assumed to start week 1, doesn't mean he can't lose the spot. But also Mccarthy was a top 10 pick, who is viewed as a little raw. So does he get a shot to beat out Darnold? I sure wouldn't want a raw rookie top ten pick to "sit and learn" behind Darnold and develop bad habits. That's gonna be a rocky start to the season either way

I have no idea why anyone believes in this guy. He's a low rent, lower ceiling Brock Osweiler.

    • This is a clear tell: bad mechanics and too short to see.  No way an offense can run efficiently like that.
    • here begins another Red Bull induced rant from NW Georgia. First preseason game. The laughing and carrying on. No focus. Dropped perfect passes. Having a good old time. I knew at that moment what was coming. We all saw it, and it thankfully didn’t get the pass it got last year. I went on a rant in that game thread about a loser’s mentality vs a winner’s mentality. Every play matters, even more so when you’re trying to establish a culture change. Ask ANY of the players on the 2015/3003 team if there are plays that don’t matter.  Dawgs? Yeah right. We just got pantsed in front of the entire NFL. It was like watching someone who dances so badly that you yourself feel uncomfortable even watching. Nails on a chalkboard.  Dawgs? Sadly, our head coach damn sure ain’t one dawg either, just what Dave wanted. I touched on this (yes, more self praise, but at least I’m honest about it) in the coaching search threads, in my thread where I talked about alpha vs beta leaders (which got pooed to all hell… poo this one too, I don’t care, but I am right) and then again after we hired Canales, saying that I was unsure but that I’d wait and see… knowing all along that T needs subservients. It’s the only way egotists know how to be. Leaders among men… their man card is NEVER for sale. That doesn’t play here, Steve…  like anyone was going to stop Brady to Mike Evans with playoffs on the line. get real. What a crock. I’m still salty.  Canales is a rah rah Mr positive energy dude. I like him, but we were/are in desperate need of a culture change. He’s a principal and parents after school meeting about the bully kind of guy. You know, a feel good move where nothing ever truly changes.  We need the kid with a rock in his sock, it’s like that now, begging dude to swing at him again while blood pours out of both shins…. Because right now, we are that kid, and we need the mustard stained Hanes undershirt dad just out on probation last week, asking if we took care of that thing yet, all while he’s eating hormel corned beef out of the tin with a plastic spork. Dan, you’re the closest thing to a dawg at the moment, and I hope it hasn’t been sold off. Meet individually with everyone. Coaches and players. Break out your spork and can of Hormel corned beef (figuratively) and ask them what their plan is to make sure that doesn’t happen again. No further questions or discussion. Thank them for their time. I’m not saying we’re anything resembling a good team, because we’re not, at all. It starts at the top, and maybe Dan needs to be that guy, at least for now.     Opposing players need to leave our place with something wrong with them (no cheap shots).  They’ll in all likelihood win, but I don’t want them to like any of it. That’s DAWG. That’s handling that thing.
