Xavier Woods up

  • Coming together in the secondary from a relationship standpoint. Jordan and Nick have been together for a few years, plus guys that were there last year. No lead guys in the room, no cancerous guys. They're just competing, giving effort, giving energy, making each other better, and making the offense better.
  • Can see that Chau Smith-Wade is tenacious, can play both inside and outside which will help his career. Went through an up and down day today but has been stacking days. He'll help us this year and is going to be a good one.
  • Talked about Peppers' meeting with the team afterwards, especially the emphasis on being family and holding each other accountable.
  • Asked about WRs popping out. "We knew Diontae had gas." "Thielen has been doing this for 30+ years." ISM is gonna talk trash. Mingo has especially stepped up as well. Coach shows who won and who loss in the meeting rooms, so they want to win.
  • Got fined by Jaycee for not getting an INT the other day, but he's gotta pay one too. They vote together to determine whether or not a DB dropped the pass. X is the treasurer and holds the money. "He's definitely getting fined." DB group likes to do stuff at the end of the year and the pot goes to whatever event they do then.
  • Doesn't want to prove anything, just wants to win. Tired of losing. "This program, this team, this tradition is winning. We want to get this team back to the top and winning where it belongs." Guys set goals for themselves, but everyone's mindset is to win. Guys from last year knew they were last, but they also knew that the talent on the team didn't reflect the record. Have to go out and improve every day so that they can take those wins.
  • Not concerned at all about the pass rush. Clowney's been doing this for 30+ years too. And DJ's definitely coming along." Young guys coming along too, and Evero is going to scheme them up. It's on the backend to hold up so that the pass rush can get there. It's a back and forth relationship.
  • Not having Burns or Shaq out there, that's the league. Guys come and go. After playing for 8 years it isn't weird for faces to change in the locker room. That's the NFL.
  • All three safeties can't be on the field at the same time but they want to succeed. Jordan, Nick, and Xavier all know each others' strengths + weaknesses. They hold each other accountable and play off of them.

Trevin Wallace wrapping it up

  • First preseason game is his first NFL so he's very excited to show the reason he was drafted.
  • Biggest adjustment at this stage is that he was at the top in college but now he's starting at the bottom, but he's got great veterans to bring him up. Shaq and Josey have been key in helping him focus on being a pro. Very complimentary of them. Thought Shaq was gonna be the mean vet but he's chill, more like a bigger brother to him. Asks him all of the questions and joke around, with Shaq often joking with him on what's going to be a fine and what isn't. Asked if they had a system like the DBs do with the fines. They fine him over silly stuff like not telling Shaq about a birthday. Joked that he was gonna get fined by Shaq for the press conference.
  • Asked about Josey's INT. Pointed out Josey's eyes and seeing a high level vet flow while moving. Watches him and Shaq a lot on film because they've been in the league for 8 + 10 years respectfully. Seeing an older guy sacrifice their body in camp by diving for the ball gets the young guys amped.
  • Sang for his rookie talent show. Didn't wanna say what song, said it wasn't good for him and that its PG-13. Can't put it in R&B nor hip hop, but it was explicit. Media was badgering him to reveal it. Revealed that his first song was "Bump and Grind" by R. Kelly, but the second song was meant to be funny and make everybody laugh. They clapped and some folks were in the back singing it. He'll tell the reporters on the side afterwards what it was. Asked about coaches being brought up on the talent show. Canales was called up. Sang "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley. "I got scared because he almost sounded better than me, but he didn't."
  • Rookie LBs are close, Trevin is the clown of the group. Makes crazy noise and having fun in the morning since he gets up early due to having two girls. Badgers Michael Barrett about his HS football team beating their HS football team in SE Georgia (even though they never played each other).
  • Biggest adjustment was being at the facility from 6:30am - 6:30pm. Getting adjusted to the free time as well.
  • Took a lot from listening to Peppers. Talked about having to come out every day, even beat up, to do a job.

does everyone forget that the patriots play dirty as fug? totally fine waiting until the jets for the 1st team to play.

They are going to count the Jets practice as more important than the actual preseason game. That'll be next weeks excuse

It probably is though. More reps in practice and going against another team.  I have marked that week for quite a while.

Maybe not more important, but more revealing maybe.

    • Just going off the draft sims and he's always sitting around 20 lol. First year in a while where we haven't been thinking about the draft already in late October so haven't really looked into the top 15-20 picks yet. Also the qb class is super weak so he probably will sneak up into 10-15
    • I fully expect them to pick up his 5th year , and they're waiting for him to put a full excellent consistent season of QB play in year 4 or 5. If that don't happen,  they'll eventually cut ties.  Here's to hoping he just goes on a team in 2026. The worst thing he could do is continue to see-saw us to around .500 records because it might be impossible to replace him at that point unless youre willing to do the veteran qb carousel poo we did from 2019 to 2023.
    • What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
