Oof we are going to miss Shaq but nice to see DJ developing. Looks like Zavala has turned into the better guard over Brady as well

DJ is 26 years old in a couple weeks. He should be developed already. He’ll be 29 in the first year of his second contract.

I don’t know why we keep drafting projects that are already older. Burns is in his 6th year in the league and he’s only 6 months older than DJ.

Well would you prefer he doesnt develop at all? We drafted him it’s done, let’s hope it pans out.

Exactly, we have to develop rotational players, not just starters.  Not every draft pick has to be a starter.

I coached with Dwight Hollier, former Tar Heel, Miami Dolphin and Indy Colt LB--he told me basically that the Special Teams coach is just as vocal as the DC and OC.  He said, "if you aren't starting, you better be making noise on special teams.  If you think about it, with 22 starters and 3 special teams specialists, that only leaves another 22 players or so on the active roster--the reserves, in other words.  He said if you are in that group, you better be a factor on special teams because when they cut players, they talk to the coordinators--and if you are a second teamer, the special teams coordinator's voice is just as loud as the defensive coordinator's voice. (He was probably talking from a LB perspective)

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
