WR Diontae Johnson to Ravens

Look, the Panthers just wanted to be rid of Johnson.  That's just the way it is.  The NFL knew at worst, they'd have to wait until FA to get Johnson, if he wasn't cut before that.  For the Panthers, you had someone who has shown he's not a culture guy like a Hubbard or a Brown.  Instead he's just here to get a check.  That's fine, but because he quit on routes, one of those led to an INT in the last game he played.  May as well get something rather than nothing.

Is Morgan the best or worst GM ever?  Nope.  We've had one off season.  There's still a lot of work on the Panthers end to get better.  I just am not sure how much Diante was going to move the needle forward.  If the NFL was offering a 3rd or 4th for Diante, then we would have taken that.  I think everyone calling Morgan a dumb dumb over this are over reacting.  We're one of the worst teams in the NFL.  What makes our talent so appealing?  If you're having a "fire sale" then ALL your assets are depreciated.

Johnson becomes WR 3/4 in Baltimore.  If any team thought he was a WR1/2, then they would have traded for him.  He's a good player.  He's a great separator.  But is he your clutch WR in the last 2 minutes on a pivotal drive?  I don't think so.

Mike Kaye just called the trade "alarming"

When you lose the beat writers of Charlotte you know we are in trouble

When it came to the trade of Diontae Johnson, Mike told Kyle that this deal made it clear that Diontae Johnson was not staying past this year and you couldn’t get as much for him in part because it is essentially a rental Mike also noted that this deal sends the message that Carolina just wanted to get him out of the door.

He may have called it alarming but also stated what other people have said. We just wanted him out the door and took whatever offer we could get for a rental WR2.

Just wanting him out the door is a good way to lose any leverage, like he said whats the harm of waiting a couple more days.

DJ must really really be an ass of a person

It doesn’t really matter we weren’t getting close to what the Titans got for Hopkins so it’s not as big of a deal. I wish they ate more of his contract but it’s all about developing our young weapons now.

I wonder how happy y'all would have been if we had just cut him? Jesus, some of y'all are some pathetic muthafugas.

You new here? LOL, welcome to the typical Huddle since Tepper bought the team....Well...it's not too different from 18 years ago?  (God, how much time have I spent here???)

Yes, a lot of fans aren't going to be happy unless the Panthers do exactly what they think is right.  Others are just generally unhappy at the team and this is their vent space.  We have all variety's of unhappy here! =0

I think most of it comes from a good place: we want the Panthers to be successful.  It's more fun to cheer for a good team.  I get it.  We've also watched floundering ineptitude for years.  We all just have different and strong opinions on how to fix it.

I think most Panthers fans are just happy when the team wins. Fans are not happy because the Panthers organization continually makes bad decisions even a child playing madden can see are not helping the team win.

adam schfter is now saying the Ravens are in line for a 3rd compensatory pick if Johnson walks.  Which I guess makes sense and is the cherry on top for this poo trade

Part of it has to do with the Ravens who tend to let high priced FAs walk, acquire comp picks.  There's a formula having to do with money out and money in via Free Agency.  Usually, Baltimore leads in the comp pick game.

Now if Johnson had remained on the team for the rest of the season, let's just average it out (per game averages to this point + first half of season stats): 69 / 816 / 7 TD (I rounded up).  How much does an average WR 2 make who is 29 and has a history of melodrama?  Versus the rest of our FA needs.  I just don't think we'd end up with that 3rd round comp pick, but then again, I'm no NFL insider.

Now Johnson could go and light it up in Baltimore due to the sheer competency of the team, and earn a fatter payday in the off season to get them that 3rd round comp pick.  No way he was earning that in Carolina.

Looking over at our cap it doesnt appear we have much room to sign anyone as it stands now

    • As bad as AR has been, the Panthers would’ve been better off right now, if they had stayed at #9 in 2023 and picked him instead of doing what they did.  At least this way, they would’ve only wasted one draft pick vs what they gave up to pick BY. And they would have kept the #1 pick in the 2024 draft.
    • I felt pretty good about us making progress this season, surprising some people, and getting some more wins than last season going into it.  Now, after preseason, my expectations are much, much lower. I was talking with my friend who is a Bears fan, and we were discussing their drubbing of the Bills and how people try to dismiss it as “preseason, so it doesn’t count.”  It absolutely counts.  Not the wins or losses.  No one really cares about that.  But what the Bears are doing shows that even in a vanilla, non-specific scheme, they are executing at an elite level and they are disciplined.  It shows they are well coached.  They see growth in their players.  Versus us - hard to tell what we’re looking at because everything is a fuging mess.  In games we’re still undisciplined, be it penalties or assignments.  We do NOT execute.  We got random coaches calling plays that won’t be calling plays during the season, we have our players getting into fights in the last padded practice of the preseason, then we have Bryce and Chuba trying to correct it while our coach sat off to the side laughing.  To be clear, I like Canales.  He seems like a good dude.  But, it feels like we have very little direction and discipline.  You’re allowing a team who has been historically bad the last almost decade, with a losing culture that mostly bereft of talent to self-police?  You’re allowing subordinates to work in pet projects at the expense of getting valuable reps and evaluation of players in during games?     My friend literally brought up last night that when Ben Johnson got there he essentially put DJ Moore in notice because it was starting to be perceived that he was displaying some diva-behavior.  That’s leadership.  And they’re reaping the benefits early and setting a tone.  My friend said there is an excitement and confidence in and around their team that’s he’s never felt his entire life.  And here we are, sounding and looking like The Bad News Bears in our final week of training camp and preseason.  I literally stopped watching after halftime last week.  I used to watch every play faithfully, even in 2001 and 2010.  It was fun.  This isn’t.  We are bad and our administration keeps making bad decisions to compound things.  Reading poo like this today is just fuging deflating.
