The Texans would likely disagree too.

It's a case-by-case thing, and in the case of Williams, well... 😕

There are a handful (a very small handful) of NFL qb's in history that were able to handle it.  Cam Newton, mainly because of his size and strength.  Jayden seems to be doing ok but that is because he had an almost idea setup and he played a lot more games in college than the majority of these guys do. But If he were in Chicago, not sure he would be doing any better than Williams.

Most of the NFL greats (Brady, Montana, Mahomes, Bradshaw, Staubach etc...) sat for a while.  There is this myth that today's qb's are able to play right away because of what they did in college.  It ain't true.

Honestly I'd argue that what most of them are doing in college right now is an argument against them starting right away rather than for it.

You might be right, but some make the argument that qb's in college throw the ball more than they did 20-30 years ago.

Generally in simplified, gimmicky systems with limited route trees and minimal read responsibility...

Young most certainly has physical limitations, but enough super athlete quarterbacks have failed over the last few years to throw significant water on the idea that you can "just coach them up" as long as they have all the athletic tools.

Imo, the ability to get the ball out quickly and accurately under pressure is still the most important skill a qb can have. Of course, when you can do that and still run around and make freaky looking throws, you get Patrick Mahomes.

This. If they can handle pressure without leaving the pocket in college and make tight window throws that's who you should be looking at.

Rumor is that some Bears players thought Williams should be benched as opposed to Waldron being fired.

True? Don't know. Plausible? Yeah.

Either way, given their prior connections It's not exactly hard to imagine Waldron becoming a part of Dave Canales' Panthers staff in some role.

(heck, I'd be for it)

Waldron is fuging awful and the Bears have no legit QB options outside Williams.

Why take the job if your Thomas Brown? Why tie your future career aspirations at being an OC or a HC to a mentally unprepared rookie again?

what's he supposed to say? no? and get fired at the end of the season anyways? he gets an opportunity to prove his ability again with a #1 pick QB and a slew of weapons.

    • Im really sorry to hear that bro.   Has to be a tough time for you and your family.  Dont forget to eat and sleep.  I know seems dumb but we neglect ourselves when we mourn which often just makes it worse.  Take care of yourself and your loved ones.
    • Progress is good. Unfortunately 1 month of QB play isn't enough to form a true picture. Roughly right around a year ago the flavor of the month was Tommy DeVito. A few years before that Jets QB Mike White made a name for himself. Need at least 8-10 games of consistency to form a true conclusion. Even then nothing is guaranteed.
    • I mean, the consensus narrative was that Bryce specifically was too physically limited to succeed.  But what you just described with a QB sucking, mood/body language being off, getting benched, then coming back and playing much better suggests the exact opposite...that his problem was mental.  Unless you think he just worked out a ton and ate his Wheaties during that 5-week benching.  I'm definitely encouraged but still nowhere near sold on Bryce, but I think he's proven that his arm is at least "good enough" which is such a timid position that y'all would regularly "LOLOLOL" at someone saying for the last year and a half. As Panthers fans, we should all be excited that our 1st overall QB seems to be trending upwards.  Instead, y'all are giddy and circle-jerking about Aidan O'Connell putting up more yards against the Chiefs than Bryce...as if that takes anything away from his actual performance, unless you're literally just comparing box scores which is the epitome of "casual fan" analysis.  You pride yourselves on being "realists", but refuse to acknowledge the reality of Bryce playing well lately, and instead do everything in your power to at least downplay or outright dismiss anything positive from him.  I respect someone like @*FreeFua* who was among Bryce's most vocal critics earlier this year, but isn't shy about giving Bryce his props lately.  The rest of you chirp chirp chirp in the gameday threads when Bryce makes a poor throw, but you've apparently lost your tongues after he throws a dime.  Maybe it's just that good that it rendered you speechless.
