People saying this have no idea, Evero may be the most respected name on Defense around the league not already a head coach right now. His body of work speaks for itself. He kept our crappy defense together with Smoke and Mirrors last season.

we were the 4th Ranked defense last year despite having a terrible offense which continually put them in bad positions(why we ranked so poorly in PPG). Baring Evero getting a HC job. We need to to keep him here if possible.

Respectfully, I completely disagree.

Last year we were:

32nd in Sacks.

32nd in Turnovers.

32nd in Rushing TDs allowed

29th in Scoring.

We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.

Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.

This year, our Defense ranks:

31st in Sacks.

Tied for 19th in Turnovers

31st in Rushing TDs allowed

32nd in Scoring

His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.

Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.

If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.

They had their chance if he was hired as head coach. I feel like he’s kind of a smoke and mirrors coach himself. But maybe it’s just the lack of talent on defense.

I think it’s a talent issue imo. Seriously how many players on the defense right now, start on our Super Bowl team? Not counting the players on IR. One? People need to realize our talent on our defense right now is pretty abysmal.

The fact that he had a similar unit ranked in the top 5 in total defense last year was nothing shy of amazing and why he got HC interviews.

Talent issue. As I said in my other post how many of our current players are starting on our 2015 team? One? Maybe?

I should add that given who's on our schedule today, this statement could turn out to be...I'll timed.

I ain’t gonna lie I’m fully expecting us to get destroyed today. The moment we are down by 14 points I’m going fishing.

wonder how many people are gonna be upset calling for coaches to be fired after we have probably our most predictable loss of the year.

I wonder if Jonathan Cooley would follow Evero. I really enjoyed the interview that he did with Jourdan Rodrigue back in August. You could tell right away that he's an effective communicator and teacher with not only his ability to clearly convey message/scheme to but also his ability to connect with and understand players. I especially appreciated his focus on maintaining his players' confidence by rewarding effort and giving them room for failure.

Links below for anyone interested. It's ~45min but it's also an easy listen!:

I'm prepared to see an indignant wave of Bryce excuses. This will be a very good test for him though. Not the Saints D.

As others noted the stats on that were a bit deceiving but I felt the defense did just pass the eye test better last year.

    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
    • Maybe faked was too strong of a word.  "Milked" may be the better way to call it.
