Are we the worse at picking second round picks or cursed?

Ryan Khalil would agree. He's the last 2nd round pick I can remember worth a damn.

Yep. If one day we decide to draft the strong/deep positions more and play the value side we could be ok. C/G is great for day 2. Same with LB and TE. Lower value positions that go after T, QB, CB, WR, etc. you are drafting the best C/G early to mid second like we always draft. Get the 2nd or 3rd best C (Frazier or Humphrey) instead of the 12th WR or 1st RB in a weak ass class.

It’s so simple and it’s why the good teams stay good for a while.

My memory must be failing me but I thought Moose was picked in the 1st. That was one of the reasons Steve Smith resented him so much at first.

I have said this before, but I watched Steve Smith bully the hell out of Dwayne Jarrrett at OTAs---and the coaches let him do it.  Steve is a narcissistic munchkin--there were not any WRs who were drafted here who prospered after Smith was drafted-I recall him embarrassing Jimmy Clausen in public, punching 2 teammates, and I watched him bully at least 1 WR.  He was not a good teammate-he sucked as a person, in my limited view.  However, at 5'8" and 200 lbs, maybe that was necessary for him to be great.

Whatever other issues SS had with teammates failed in comparison to Steve's infuriating complex. He had to be the best and baddest in the field and he wasn't going to be anyone's friend.

I have a theory.  For most of our time here, Marty was the GM.  He was solid in the first round.  He then, in the second round, would say, "We had a first round grade on him."  Everette Brown was one--Clausen was another....I ask, "If they had a first round grade, why did he fall?"  He said that about Clausen--KC and Minnesota did not have a QB during that draft and they passed on Clausen in the first round--and in the second.  That should have been a red flag--what did they know that Hurney did not know?  That was also the Armanti Edwards draft.  So in round 2, if a player drops, find out why other teams are passing.  It could be that they have other needs, but KC and Minn needed QBs and skipped on Clausen.  This is AFTER MH spent the evening between rounds 1 and 2 trying to give the Rams the team's first rounder (the following year) and the second rounder that year to move up to take Clausen at 33.  That is how you get into trouble--read the room.

    • My biggest fear with Bryce Young is that he will always do just enough to stick around. He shows flashes and then drops a turd so the hopium is always there. Like his career highlight reel if you cut it up to some hype music and did a YouTube video would actually be quite good. His great plays really, really look good. But after that video you look at his yearly averages for completion percentage, yardage, touchdowns, and virtually every other metric and it is meh as fug. Like you know Bryce is gonna be 13/23 for 157 yards a touchdown and probably a pick.  I will 100% give him his flowers for his athleticism and ability to scramble outside the pocket. I haven’t seen the mythical “super processing ability” he was touted for per se, but he has shown flashes of absolutely elite awareness when it comes to scrambling. The little basketball move he does to shake defensive linemen has almost become a signature move. It’s hard to explain but you know it when you see it he stops on a dime and pivots like he is gonna hit a step back jumper and it has gotten him out of a lot of trouble.  I sincerely, truly, as a vocal Bryce HATER, hope that since we are obviously running with him next year the coaching staff actually tailors plays around his strengths. He needs to be in a pure spread IMO. His size is much less of a hindrance when he can play QB in open space. I feel like most of his highlight reel is from scrambles and play action/bootlegs.
