I think people are really underestimating how bad XL has been.

Agreed. I’ll never call a rookie a bust unless it’s just a laziness thing, hopefully he can grow into his role but he hasn’t really brought anything to the table yet

i don't think he's lazy

i think there's just a distinct lack of dawg in him.

Yeah I wasn’t talking about him, when I say lazy I mean like Jamarcus Russel or Zion level. Where you know it will never work no matter how much talent. Those are the only first round guys I’d say you can call busts year 1

Thielen is not a surprise. Remember, he's a former Viking and at least historically, they've had some really great receivers in the past and today.

If it wasn't for the dropped passes, XL would probably be a lot closer to Coker, I would assume. I have to remind myself that he is still very much a raw player and he's got more catching up to do learning his craft.

Coker's an interesting case because I would've said he's not a burner but then he had that big touchdown against the Cowboys. For a rookie, he seems to be dependable on being where he should be which pairs well with the QB that we have.

Diontae... well, that's why he's still finding jobs elsewhere.

Interesting where Harrison Jr is on that chart. If I'm reading that right, he really struggles with separation.

Mike Evans out there just in a league of his own.

That game where he went 200+ yards against us still haunts me. I admire the man as a player, but I'll also be thrilled the day we don't have to face him anymore.

We have to be near the bottom of the league at YAC, can’t remember the last time a WR took a screen pass for a big gain.

Off my memory, this team has generally not been able to run a screen that works to save their life. I still remember Cam got picked off a few times trying to run one. Probably the most consistent YAC concept we've ever had was Smitty's smoke routes; those were borderline cheat codes at times.

And JT had around 50 yards off a check down last month vs the Saints. Coker also had a good 20 yards off a check down, the yac was like 50% of the passing yards that game lol.

That's about all I remember for the entire season. Meanwhile, I get envious of watching teams like the Rams and Chiefs. Constant little checkdowns and then it's 10~15 yards with defenders either seemingly out of place or well blocked.

Screen pass no clue, but Coker took a 30-yard pass an extra 53 yards Sunday before last.

Yeah I guess that counts, but that was more of a busted coverage than anything. I was think of what DJ used to do where he would shake or break some tackles for a big gain

Same guy has other stats as well. After looking at all of them, my biggest takeaway is that stats alone don't tell the whole story, especially when one set contradicts the other. Also, how there's a lot of variables to consider, like how whether the Ravens receivers seemingly getting tons of separation is more on skill or because defenses being more focused on stopping Lamar and Derrick Henry running all over them.

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
