A couple?  Young's future with the Panthers will be decided next offseason.  He's either going to get the 5th year option which signals strongly a second contract or they will be looking for serious competition or an outright replacement.

Did Dan and Dave tell you that?

Generally high draft picks have that option picked up going into year 4 if the team is serious about locking them up, if not outright offer them the second contract. That's not something that lingers into that 4th season.  It usually tips the hand of where the team stands with that player long term.

I know all of that. But until it happens why worry about it?

Y'all have completely moved the goalposts and lost sight of the point entirely. I did not bring up Allen nor did I say anything about that other than to respond to the ludicrous comment that was made.

My point was simply that franchise QBs find ways to win certain types of games, games where (as one example) poor defense needs to be overcome. That's not happening yet in Carolina and that is a big metric for being a 'franchise QB'. It really is that simple and all that was said.

My original comment for reference, in its entirety:

"We aren't winning because of him either. Gotta have that from a true franchise QB. Not every single game of course, but more often that not."

Cherry picking and now moving the goal post. 👍.

They're fuging bonkers if they take up his 5th year option.

For the third time now, not every game will be a win. That is not the expectation. But in your cherry-picked example, let me know when Bryce has a day where he posts 400 total yards/4 TDs and 90% of the production as the sole driver of the offense, as Allen did, en route to that type of loss and my opinion will be different about said cherry-picked single game.

I didn't give a single cherry picked example, I gave you a three game sample against playoff teams in which he did in fact, do enough to win.

I'm not crowning him the franchise savior but I am saying he is improving and doing enough on a personal level to win. He can't catch the ball in the endzone for his WRs. He can't overcome bad inept calls by the refs taking points off the board. He can't be the running back that needs to hold onto the ball in OT. He can't be the defense giving up game winning drives in multiple games after securing a lead with less than two minutes to go.

He does need to be more consistent and he needs to put more complete games together rather than some late game heroics, there are too many 3 and outs throughout the season for my liking. Hopefully that improves with more experience from both Bryce and Canales, but he isn't padding his stats in garbage time like Caleb Williams. He's played well. Not great, but well. C+/B- levels of QB play, which is a huge jump up from his F grade last year. He is attempting throws that Bridgewater never did, look at the passing charts from the games since he's come back compared to Teddy. Teddy was allergic to throwing past 10 yards down the field, but would uncork one bomb per game. Bryce is feasting in the intermediate levels of the field (10-20) with rainbows that keep falling into our receivers hands. I'm here for it. The hope is that the trend continues and the team puts more and more complete games together next year.

But let's be honest, The defense is the biggest issue with the team going into next season. That needs to be addressed far more than finding Bryce's replacement. QB Class next draft is looking solid, if he shits the bed next year, I'm all for drafting the new guy.

Yea because he can't play defense after he drives us down the field to take the lead. And he can't catch a easy TD against Philly. And he can't make Chubba hold on to the ball after he gets us in position to kick the game winning field goal. Lolol yea we aren't winning because of Bryce because he CAN'T DO EVERYTHING for the team smh

Not worrying, just not looking beyond one year at a time.  That's half of our problem, just plodding along year to year it seems like without a long term plan mapped out.  With that in mind, 2025 is a cross roads for Young, at least for me.

Preach! People act like Brady didn’t have Bruschi, Wilfork, McGinest. Like Mahomes doesn’t have Jones, Justin Reid, and others on defense. Not to mention the stacked-ass defenses of them Steelers, 49ers and Cowboys dynasties.

This ain’t boxing or even basketball. This is a true team sport and one guy is not going to win you a championship.

There are games where the defense falters and the offense steps up and, on those teams you mention, vice versa. It goes all ways and that is what needs to be shown with greater consistency before the 'franchise' label applies. No game comes down to a single drive or single play, and those hames that were lost this year had other plays/opportunities to win that the offense didn't come through on. That's really all I'm saying.

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
