The final week of the regular season, especially for a team not making the playoffs, is a time of reflection.

For the Carolina Panthers (4-12), there wasn’t a ton to celebrate in 2024. But the team did double its win total from 2023 before Christmas, and the future does seem somewhat bright for head coach Dave Canales and GM Dan Morgan and their respective crews.

However, with the season about to wrap up, The Observer went around the Panthers’ locker room to get its perspective on the team’s performance this year.

The Observer polled 64 players over the past two weeks to get their votes for the offensive, defensive and special teams MVPs of 2024.

As with last year’s Processing Blue awards, players had to be on the 53-man roster, practice squad and/or injured reserve for at least four weeks this season to receive a vote. The players couldn’t vote for themselves, and they only had one vote for each of the three categories.

Panthers offensive MVP

  • Winner: RB Chuba Hubbard (44 votes)
  • Runner-up: QB Bryce young (15 votes)
  • Staff picks: Hubbard (Fowler), Hubbard (Kaye), Hubbard (Zietlow)

Panthers defensive MVP

  • Winner: CB Jaycee Horn (27 votes)
  • Runner-up: LB Josey Jewell (17 votes)
  • Staff choices: Jewell (Fowler), Horn (Kaye), Horn (Zietlow)

Panthers special teams MVP

  • Winner: TE Feleipe Franks (31 votes)
  • Runner-up: DB Lonnie Johnson (11 votes)
  • Staff picks: Pineiro (Fowler), Rhattigan (Kaye), Franks (Zietlow)

Giving this team an MVP award is like handing out participation awards after a tee ball game

Yeah it's kinda pointless but a couple of them need a pat on the back for not giving up halfway through the season. Other than that it's just a participation trophy.

O MVP

1.  Hubbard

2.  The OL

3.  AT

D MVP

1.  Jewell

2. Horn

I really don't think there is a D MVP.  I think Jewell just deserves some praise though for sort of standing out.

ST MVP

Abstain.

*new award

CPOY

Bryce Young - he climbed out of the pits of hell that no one thought possible.  Still not impressive QB play but he climb out of that was impressive.

    • Outside of cerrato, I do like our draft overall. Hard to get can't miss draft picks when you pick late in the draft
    • Very True--and I am a former HS English teacher.
    • Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
