Time to draft a running back?

TB had White coming off a high volume year and Sean Tucker as a solid backup. I think they’re happy they took Bucky in the 5th.

And we have 9 picks as is. Could end up with 10-11 by the draft.

There really isn’t a position I’m all bent out of shape with drafting/not drafting. The team needs help nearly everywhere. Worst depth in the league.

I maintain the same position I have had for YEARS.  We should never in reality be paying FA RBs or extending contracts to big money.  We should steadily be drafting RB year after year....and investing the real money elsewhere.

Panthers org has an obsession with putting money into the RB spot.  In terms of guaranteed money, the Panthers under Tepper have basically been committed to always have top 10 money in a RB.

CMC to Sanders to Hubbard.  That's not worked out very well in the Tepper era.

running backs are so undervalued that you should drafting one at least every other year or so. it cost almost nothing to dreft a guy on day 3

Especially when it’s one of the deepest positions in the draft

I’m ok with one extension for a RB you draft while you groom the next one to take over as RB1

RBs have a high level of attrition. I'm often in favor of finding some fresh legs mid-late draft who can either:

- Be a change of pace back

- Can catch the ball

- Are good with pass protection

We did get Chuba as a fourth round pick, so there's precedent. Also, we need Brooks insurance.

Overall I agree but Chuba will probably be outside the top 10 at his position by the end of the offseason, and his contract is not unreasonable and I think he played himself into it.

We do need to go get another back in the draft quite probably. We can't count on JB ever coming back, really, and if he does and excels, we'd be in a good position anyway.

If the draft is this loaded, there will be an UDFA available--we have so many needs--a rental could be an UDFA or a 1-year contract signing.  But I see a lot of talent and value at RB this year.  Lotta ways to approach the problem--not one answer, and if anyone comes across as there is, he is full of shite.

    • I noticed Canales commented on King having a live arm. Weinke coached him and said he could make any throw an NFL team would ask him to make.  His mechanics and general process of throwing looks a little wonky to me though. Haven’t really zoomed in on that though to say more.     Brazzell, his hands look at least decent to me and of course his speed is there.   Love his balance.  Like a cat, always comes down on his feet. Not his butt.
    • If Veabel is the father the name, unfortunately…. well you are looking at Mike Jr.    I feel bad for the husband And the kid though. Especially the kid who had no hand in anything and is just a victim.   Most people would develop some pretty big issues around the chaos of finding out nothing you were told about your father was true and you have been calling the wrong guy Dad.  And trusting your mother, well that is over too.     She should be permanently burned as a reporter or rumor reporter. Whatever she I was.    Who can trust anything she says?   Vrabel has outed himself as a total phony. No credibility whatsoever.
    • My worry is about his concussion. Concussions.  Last thing we need is for him to  be like Jewel. I am looking forward to him benefiting from better players around him in the defense.  Defending QBs under a little more pressure than the last few years.  Better coverage defense in front of him in the middle.
