I said Penix seems to be.  He made some great plays.  He made some not so great ones.  To small of a sample size to be sure though.  But if I were a Falcon fan, I would be hopeful at least.

Did they keep Morris?  I thought they hired him after firing Smith in Jan of last year.  Might be misremembering though.

Morris was their interim before but he was the Rams DC for a stint because they hired Smith instead.

Jaguars are a clusterfug. How do you not fire Baalke along with Pederson.

And as a Trevor Lawrence dynasty owner, please get him a good coach.

Their owner (or his son at least, who helps run the franchise) is too busy trying to play wrestling promoter to care.

Morris was coach of the Bucs post-Gruden. I think he had 3 years there and produced an underwhelming team with rumored discipline problems across the roster. He isn't going to work out there either, but that's fine. They can hold on to him forever. Some people are just not cut out for the job of being the head honcho and the tone setter.

People forget how terrible he was in Tampa.

  • 3-13
  • 10-6 (No Playoffs)
  • 4-12

Then he went 4-7 as Atlanta's interim. My guess is they implode next season, especially now that they have the whole Penix/Cousins cap situation on their hands.

I almost fell out of my chair when I read Baalke was still there.

I think Baalke has actually done a nice job of acquiring talent which the Jags do have. They hit a home run with Brian Thomas Jr, Travon Walker is trending up, I think Lawrence is overrated but he has shown flashes. A GM's job is to acquire talent, it's the HC job to make them perform.

Fair I just don’t see it personally but he certainly could prove me wrong.

Good call, for some reason I thought he was interim the year before but that was way back in 2020.

Not sure if this was shared elsewhere, but the Bears have asked permission to interview Mike McCarthy of the Cowboys.

To me, he seems like a better fit there.

Jerry should keep him and get a qb. Their biggest problem is the qb.

Could not believe that I could not find a "Black Monday" thread except the one about Mayo.  I have some dirt that I love because I hate New Orleans--they stole our basketball team, they give us hurricanes, and they are stupid. And from Google Earth, New Orleans looks like the nation's twat.  For reference, Tampa Bay is just as bad about the hurricanes, but they did not steal our basketball team and they are more like a venereal wart on the nation's penis--big difference.  Sorry for the offensive metaphors--had to be said.

Now more facts with commentary:

  • Mayo out in New England.  While he was never a coordinator, could he be a candidate for the DC job here?
  • Vrabel to interview in New England.  This is very significant because before the Mayo firing, Vrabel was considered an option in New Orleans.  They wanted him BAAAD.
  • Jaguars fire Pederson.  He deserved it.
  • Giants to keep head coach (Daboll) and GM (Schoen)
  • Bengals fire Defensive Coordinator (Amarumo).

If Vrabel is a hot commodity,  no way he goes to New Orleans I think.  He would want to go to someone with a young talented qb, so it seems either Chicago or New England would be a more desired target.

I read a Saints' forum and they were talking like Vrabel was heading to the Big Easy until Mayo went sour (see what I did there?).  I would want the Bears' job--but I really like Maye.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
