Tetairoa McMillan

Picking at 8 I believe the dream of landing an elite blue chip defensive player is all but dead. Carter is gone Hunter is gone Great chance Graham is gone, so at this point I know most of the board will say we should grab the next best pass rusher or edge. I say if the board falls right you still have a chance at grabbing the best wide receiver in the draft.

Hunter is an elite generational talent and maybe the best overall player in the class. But he's not the best wide receiver in the class if that makes sense just pure wide receiver. T-Mac has elite size at 6'5 He's the big bully ball wide receiver the the red zone threat that this team has needed for years. A lot of scouts are calling him the next Mike Evans but when you watch T-Mac play he plays with a lot more burst than Evans ever did. TMac has legit run after catch ability with an elite ball radius to one hand and jump and make all those incredible highlight reels and if you watch Xavier legette play last year and your soul that he's the sure number one wide receiver of the future then this could be a bad call.

But anyone who's being serious with themselves right now you wouldn't want to put all your eggs in one basket or bet the farm on him becoming the player you hope he can become after all the drops and iffy he play from him. I think this class is deeper at edge pass rusher and defensive tackle talent then playmakers so I'm praying to the gods mac falls.

Yeah I more or less agree. TMac is an awesome prospect. If the elite defensive guys are gone, hop on TMac or Tyler Warren without much hesitation.

I love Warren as well Warren would be my next guy because we've lacked that elite playmaking tight end for a long time and Warren is more or less a gronk clone so to speak. I don't think Ian will be back nor do I think Tremble will be back. There is room for another tight end to play alongside Sanders and while Sanders is solid I think we would benefit from an elite talent and playmaker at the position.

My only problem with selecting TMAC is that we have to trust our staff to find those defensive gems late round... But don't get me wrong I wouldn't hate TMAC in process blue. Maybe after free agency I'll feel even better about it. I mean regardless of who we take at 8 we HAVE to hit on late round picks. Idk this is almost like a "prove it" draft for the staff.

We have three 4ths and two 5ths. I don't think we make five picks on the 4th and 5th rounds. I think we package some picks to move up. Yeah, we need bodies but when you get past the 3rd round you're basically throwing darts at the board. Your odds of finding quality players is dropping dramatically. Yeah, we all know great players get drafted in the mid to late rounds and even go undrafted, I'm just talking about playing the odds.

Yeah I expect the same, as far as likely packaging one or more of those day 3 picks to move up. I still worry about our drafting day 2 on. They like to get "cute" and gamble a lot. Issue is we aren't normally on the green side of those gambles.

What guys do you have in that “elite defensive guys” tier

Most people have Abdul Carter as the number one overall defensive player. Behind him you have Travis Hunter Mason Graham and Will Johnson at corner after that you start going at high upside guys mykel Williams, jaylon walker, shamar Stewart.

We picked Moore in the later 1st at 24. Plenty of very good WRs in the 2nd. I would rather them take an OT than a WR at 8 this year. Trading back and getting an extra pick and spending that on D guys would be way better IMO. Too lopsided of a move with their recent moves and much bigger needs. The D needs talent desperately. If a DT is there I would hate to see a WR over that.

    • Bryce among the 7 players Mark Ross of NFL.com guarantees will get better this season. Today, I am identifying seven players who I guarantee will improve on their 2024 output in the 2025 season. Young took tremendous strides in 2024 after returning to the starting lineup in Week 8 following his benching. He looked far more comfortable in his return and produced with consistency, as he threw for 2,104 yards with 15 TDs and six INTs in the final 10 contests. Most important perhaps is Young's confidence grew immensely down the stretch, leading Carolina to either a game-tying or game-winning drive in six of those games. Now he enters his second season in Dave Canales' system with his best supporting cast to date. The Panthers drafted wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan eighth overall to pair with Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette, who I also believe is poised for a breakout campaign this fall. The 18th-ranked rushing attack from a year ago added Rico Dowdle to complement Chuba Hubbard, giving the team a pair of 1,000-yard rushers. The Panthers have taken the necessary steps to ensure Young's third season will be the best of his career, and now it's up to him to not only continue to grow as a player but prove why he was worthy of being taken No. 1 overall in 2023. I believe that's what he will do. https://www.nfl.com/news/which-nfl-players-will-improve-in-2025-c-j-stroud-deebo-samuel-among-guaranteed-risers
    • While it's fair to question how impactful a player's relationship with a coach is (especially if someone has questions regarding said coach), it's important to also evaluate the difference between the players here. Jordan Fuller was pick #199 in the 6th round while Justin Simmons was #98 in the 3rd round. Jordan Fuller might have gotten a Super Bowl ring while he was with the Rams, but he got it while on the IR. Justin Simmons, on the other hand, is a x2 Pro-Bowler (2020, 2023), x4 second-team All-Pro (2019, 2021 - 2023), and was the NFL co-leader in INTs (2022). Simmons has also fallen off in the last couple of seasons though, grade-wise. He very well might not be that same player, which could be why the Falcons have elected to replace him with Fuller. As far as getting the best out of what he has, asking him to produce with a starting DL of A'Shawn Robinson (63.56% of the defense's snaps), LaBryan Ray (51.48%), and Shy Tuttle (50.08%) isn't reasonable. Wonnum only played in 8 games, but had the second most % of snaps (37.27%) at EDGE behind Clowney (53.53%). The second-string DL based on snap % was... and don't read this if you just ate... Charles Harris (34.48%), DeShawn Williams (27.67%), and Nick Thurman (19.7%). The second-string EDGEs based on snap count would be DJ Johnson (32.27%) and Cam Gill (18.14%). With the investments made in the run defense this season though, especially on the defensive line, it's more than fair to demand a complete turn around from last season.
