Anyone with functioning brain cells knew Tee Higgins wasn't going anywhere for less than a haul. If we were actually pursuing him it shows we haven't learned and it also shows the FO knows full well they suck balls at drafting.

would have been the around the same haul as what DK went for

To be clear the Bengals front office are certifiably insane they were assuredly asking for more than the DK Metcalf compensation.

I think we were seriously trying for Tee but weren’t willing to make a reckless offer which the Bengals wanted. Tee and DK are legit everyone else this FA is meh. I really think Tmac is the pick at 8

I don’t think he has even been brought in for a visit so don’t think he’s the pick. I’d kick the tires with cooper if he wasn’t expensive. Drafting receivers has not out real well recently.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with kicking the tires. Like I said, I think they wanted a ridiculous return for him and we said we’re out.

It sounds like we did more than just kick the tires for DK and Tee. We weren't window shopping we were looking to buy. But I really wish we could gain some level of competency in drafting. Maybe it will happen. We'll see.

Posted (edited)

- Looking at last years transaction dates: Dan made his last pre-draft free agent signing late March, he made no transactions in the month of April (not counting draft week)

- Owners meetings start this Saturday March 30 through April 2nd

- Expect Dan to wrap up free agency this week

- Joe Person tweeted that he would not be surprised if we brought back Rasheem Blackshear and Sam Franklin

Updated NFL Salary Cap Outlook for All 32 Teams Entering Week 3 of Free Agency 2025

Carolina Panthers $13.8 million

Thanks for keeping us current.  Signing draft picks is about all we have left--I am still very happy that Morgan did not kick the can down the road.   I also think some players with bigger salaries could be released after the draft (Robinson, Clowney--doubtful, but possible--etc.

Seems this is accurate, but doesn't include contracts for david moore and nick scott.

I don't think that $13.8M includes the Moore or Soctt contracts and when I checked our rookie salary pool it was projected at $12.7M.  So yeah, barring any further cuts or restructures, we are tapped out.

So we could be around $10-11m.  I do not get into the cap stuff and contracts that much--too stressful--but I do think we have some veterans who might be released after the draft.

I like to throw a radical idea out there on occasion, so here is my radical idea for today--and it has literally a less than 1% chance  of happening--put Robert Hunt on the trading block.  Zavala played well last year and I hate to see him on the pine on a rookie contract while Hunt is approaching 30 and making bank.  Based on PFF:

Now, remember, the idea is to keep Bryce's uniform clean. Note the difference in pass blocking and the similarity in run blocking.  Zavala might be the better player. I realize there is a smaller sample size, but Zavala BALLED OUT when he played.  Had we known he would, we would not have signed Hunt.  A team could pick up Hunt for $16m or so, and that is what the Panthers would save in Cap room. I am thinking this would be a post draft trade--maybe a mid season trade--but if they could find a partner, I think I would do it.

I realize that some would say "That's crazy!! We just got the OL right and now you do this?"  The reality of the situation is a team cannot pay $80m per year for its offensive line.  Ickey is going to need a deal and deserves it.  Moton is probably in his final season, but as soon as we can break away from paying our guards $40m per year, the better off we will be.  Zavala has earned the right to start.  If I were another team in the NFL, I would be trading for him.

And THAT is the radical concept I have for this point in time in Panther history.  You're welcome.

    • The league would protect him.  The amount of poo Jerry Jones has had exposed and got away with?  The amount of poo Stephen Ross has got away with?  How long Dan Snyder got away with essentially fuging sex trafficking employees and poo???????  Taking down JR was a hit job.  You think the other 31 owners, especially the older ones aren’t blathering, blatant, ignorant ass, bigoted rich racists who have committed far worse things than Blue Jean Fridays?  The ones I named above have DEFINITELY did worse than what JR was accused of.  And do you think guys like Steve Smith would’ve been viewing him as a father figure if they felt that’s who he was?  JR pissed the league off with that last lockout situation and they made him pay.  They lined a new guy up to join their billionaire boys club in Tepper, and they prolly slid a pretty penny to Jonathan Jones to write the “expose,” to get JR out of here.  Again, all the owners I’ve listed above have been verified on record for doing worse poo, yet they’re still running their organizations, unquestioned.  They hand-picked Tepper long before JR was forced out, so he isn’t going anywhere.  Sadly.  fug the NFL.  (Also, to be clear, it’s always fug racism, bigotry, and sexual exploitation - not ever excusing it.  Just making the point that the NFL isn’t operating under this clear standard of justice applied to each and every case)
    • I was still in the throes of a contentious divorce and my job at the time had me work on Sundays.  At the beginning of the season I tried to still work around Sundays so I could see our games.  I think after Bryce came back from the benching, I said fug it.  First time in my life I intentionally didn’t watch our games, even through the Atlanta finale.  In the past, even if we didn’t live up to expectations, I would watch to still support and at least analyze player development, strengths and weaknesses, coaching, etc., but Bryce makes all of that a moot point, so I stopped watching. Again, this is asinine,  it if he is retained (still can’t believe this is even a possibility of a conversation due to how shitty our organization has become under Tepper), I will NOT watch next season until he is gone.
    • Live look at Bryce playing ping pong.
