TMac ran a 4.48 at his pro day.  He won’t last long

Funchess ran a 4.5 at his pro day after running a 4.7 at the combine.

A 4.48 is probably a 4.6x at the combine.  If he could actually run a combine 4.48, there is no way he would have skipped it.

The more I ponder it, the more I think we go with Malaki Starks from Ga. He's a solid FS, who played 671 snaps last year in coverage (400 as FS and 271 at nickel). He's also 1 of the only round 1 talents we've formally visited with, Shemar Stewart and Jalon Walker being the other 2. We don't have a FS on the roster other than last year's UDFA. I think that there will be plenty of edges still there at 57.

Of course, that S from South Carolina is a beast as well, and we like to draft Gamecocks first overall of late.

2 totally different players and you don’t get to assume 40 times at the combine.  Live in reality dog

What? I’m living in reality. It’s been shown so many times that pro day numbers magically bring down bad combine results. I didn’t call him Funchess, just using him as an example where he magically got faster at his pro day. It happens all the time in the real world. Sorry man, McMillan isn’t a 4.48 combine guy. If we take him at 8, his speed is in question. One of his weaknesses is top end speed and getting separation deep. That doesn’t equate to 4.48 combine speed so his pro day speed should be viewed with skepticism.

I don’t want to be a downer but when we were like 1 loss away from jumping to the top pick, the draft was looking fun and maybe getting us some picks in a trade down. If we take a safety at 8, ugh, what a punch to the gut that’ll be.

Seeing these new contracts for edges, WR’s and corners you’d be smart to draft one of those for sure but holy f*ck is it ever stupid to take a developmental player in the top 10.

So he takes 2-3 years to develop and you lose a lot value in taking a guy that plays one of those positions

Develop him and benefit from 1-2 cheap years before having to back up the brinks truck

Almost like picking the first RB coming off a severe injury in a weak class and realizing we won’t even know what we have until we have 2 cheap years left.

If there was no combine bryce would still be 6'1 right now.

I kinda agree, but it's looking (to me) like BPA at #8 might be a FS or a TE. Both make my stomach hurt at #8.

Edit: Anyone not named Graham or Carter is probably a reach for us at 8.

    • People really need to stop placing Dan Morgan on some kind of infallible pedestal. He is absolutely in lockstop with Tepper regarding Bryce and has been all along. As far as the team being okay with 185 passing yards per game. We better have a proven monster RB in our backfield then. Presently that guy is not on the roster. Chuba has one outlier season so far and the other guys have proven nothing. Not what you would call a great recipe. The only thing we can hope at this juncture is that the highest paid OL in the league for the second year in a row elevates their play from last season and opens up some massive holes even our RB's can get through. But it still doesn't resolve the issue of predictability. With no viable passing game it is much easier to shut down any run game. No defenses are scared of Bryce's arm. It is what it is.
    • i lived in Atlanta from 84'to 92' & back then it was indeed a very different time without the internet & access to information 24/7. shortly after i moved back home to western NC around 93' or 94' the Carolina Panthers were awarded an NfL franchise & began their inaugural season in 95' so ike you i have seen the Carolina Panthers, ,the NFL ,technology, fans all evolve over the many a moon & years now some for the better & others not so ...just saying
    • I wouldn't even bet on us winning the NFC South. All four teams had excellent Drafts.
