Johnthan Czarnecki: QB Committee needs to happen ASAP in Carolina

Look, just because we figured out how to make the "running back by commitee" thing work most effectively in today's NFL, and just because we seem to have figured out how to effectively use a "pass rush by commitee" in the last three preseason games, doesn't mean we can single handedly destroy the image of the pass happy NFL by using an "average semi-used passing game by commitee" mentality.

hey that coulda been us... there were a few Panther fans pulling for Spurrier to be here

Actually Spurrier was our choice before Fox. Dungy,Spurrier, and then Fox. Spurrier saw us as an inferior team. I guess sometimes your a winner and a loser at the same time.

Might be a stretch to say Spurrier was "first choice". He interviewed, and per Gantt the interview was a disaster (apparently for both sides). Richardson is said to have a preference for defensive coaches, and there's evidence that Marty Hurney shares that idea.

The one value that Spurrier has had to the NFL is to show that platooning quarterbacks at the pro level in today's NFL is a dumb idea.

For the record, John Czarnecki is a writer I usually like, but this is one of the dumbest ideas I've heard in a long, long time :nonod:

    • It is heretical language to some.  We casual types can say it, we are just dumb. When Cosell says it they probably go looking for their pacifiers and blankies.  Second consecutive week he dished that out.  I wonder what it will be on the review this week.
    • I love how everyone is acting so surprised by this, it's actually pretty comical that it's a shock to anyone. This is how it is in ALL sports.  It's the same reason we were in tight games last year against teams like KC and Philly.   I'll bet the same people surprised by this right now are the same ones who thought those games were the proof that Bryce was legit and this team wasn't far from being in contention. Teams have down weeks, whether it happens because they're playing a weak opponent so don't think they need to take the week as serious or because a team just got too big headed after a good streak of games/wins, it just happens. There have been very few teams who have ever been 100% locked in every week, you're talking about 2007 Patriots or 95-96 Bulls type of teams there. Hell, just look at the Bills this week, there was no reason for them to lose that game and they got blown out.  But sure, we're the franchise with the culture problems because a few guys got their head over their skis this past week.
    • TBH, we won't know unless they say or some people get benched. It's pointless to even speculate. The greater point is that the coaching staff is allowing it to happen. So much for a "Leadership Council."
