think we're interested in him as a returner

Former Clemson/Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow did visit with the #Panthers Wednesday, as a league source confirmed and as
@RapSheet
 &
@TomPelissero
 said.

He spent 2023 out of ball. The 29-year-old has quite a bit of punt return exp. Also, 269 rec for 2,884 yds & 17 TDs in 5 yrs.

There's some absoulute slappies on rosters across the league, I'd take him in a heartbeat. He's a cerebral route runner and posesses the ability to manipulate defenders in zone/off man. QB friendly receiver. Laterally he's twitchy enough dude has to put some muscle on though, he gets bodied in press man.

This seems like a Jordan Matthews long shot move.  I doubt he makes the 53 man if they bring him in.  He was already washed and missed a year.

I don't think he was washed so much as Hunter Renfrow is a very specific niche player that requires actually playing to that niche and it built into an O.

He is rather pointless to have if you aren't going to have an O he fits into and the specific work he does.

Can the average NFL player cover the Renfrow route/game? Not really.  But your O has to want that in your O.  If just ask him to sub in for a random WR.....that doesn't really work.

can he play anything?

Renfrow can work select routes in the slot as good as anyone.  He isn't a plug into any offense type  or just any slot role type.

Renfrow ran some of the nasty routes out of the slot that could be ran.  He is now 30.   Renfrow losing that quickness in his feet that comes with age......is just a massive nail in the coffin, given his niche at this level.

Panthers front office might as well start posting up in local nursing homes at this point. Maybe there's a few old timers around with some juice left in the tank.

Or you know they could just stop drafting like utter dogshit.

He probably wouldn't make the team.  That's why I say it's just Jordan Matthews all over again.  He gets to be in camp.  Someone will get to write an article about it.  And then he won't make the 53.

    • To me, this seems like they feel they aren't going to be competitive. I can't help but go back to Bryce. Good guy, but he doesn't inspire people to give it their all. He isn't a "leader" that people look to. There is no Smith, Delhomme, Kuechly, Cam, etc. coming in that door.  It has to be Bryce, but biologically speaking, how often is the shortest man in the room going to command the kind of respect that will drive people? It just isn't. That isn't how we are wired. That isn't how any living animal on Earth today is wired.  I just follow the science guys.
    • Vick's issue with Reid was that he couldn't take a hit, and he wouldn't go down. Otherwise he was pretty good much of the time.  Mahomes has a system that works. Mahomes doesn't become Mahomes elsewhere because not everyone can extract 125% of the ability of a specific player like Reid can. Kevin O'Connell is beginning to look like he has that ability as well but I'll need to see how he does with his Redshirt Freshman.  I also wonder how much of their playoff issue last year was related to the offense as a whole and not just Darnold. Fans don't really dive into the "why" things happen, they just see the what and complain about it.
