Steve Smith Rumor *already dismissed*

i don't care about what's best for steve smith. i'm a panthers fan...not a steve smith fan. i root for players on this team and when they are gone, they are the enemy. i don't care what he'll do on another team. i don't care about getting him a ring on another team. once he's gone, he's irrelevant only to show another failed opportunity that we didn't capitalize on.

that said, anyone thinking that he would go for anything earlier than a third, esp. while injured, is being obscenely blind. if he gets traded (which i don't think is going to happen this year) it will be for a 3rd at the earliest. vjax, i can see him going to the pats for a 2nd but that is more because he isn't injured and they would be likely to get a good few more years from him than from smith. i don't agree with the value but that is the way the market place is going. established vets are going for a much lower price than they should compared to the unproven players you get in the draft.

I would love to see Smith on another team. I miss watching his amazing talent. With Clausen all we get to see is David Gettis anyway.

Steve Smith has caught more passes from Clausen than Gettis has. In fact Steve Smith has caught more passes from Clausen then any of our receivers have I do believe!

Just saying....

on topic, I can't see this happening, the Panthers will be asking for a lot more than any team would be willing to give up for him. He is aging and I dare say he may have some durability questions

Pats are not going to take on a hefty contract with 2 1/2 years left on it with a potential lockout looming. Especially for an injured player (twice this year) over 30.

Agree.

I always shake my head when people say the Panthers should trade Steve Smith so that he can get a ring elsewhere.

No team in the NFL is going to make that kind of transaction. None. Anyone that did would (justifiably) be laughed out of the league.

You don't make trades or any reason except to better this team. Nothing else matters.

Besides, it's not like we know who's going to win the Super Bowl before week six, so if you traded him in that hope and then that team didn't win, what have you accomplished except to lose a good player for a stupid reason :nonod:
