I don't think anyone doesn't think it has been upgraded and should be better. We just do not know how much better it will actually be.

Now you've got additional data to help you narrow that window of expectation! 😄

What feels different about this year is that Dan seems to be signing good football players and not just guys who fit Everos scheme.  It feels like Evero is gone no matter what after this season

It seems to me that we overpaid for Wharton and I am not sure that he is an every down DT at 280 lbs--I think he will probably move between NT and DE depending on the situation.  Brown III doubles the run stuffing ability at NT.  I realize that we brought Tuttle back--maybe he was out of position as an undersized NT--maybe he can play 3-5tech.

We need a DE (3-5 tech) and I am guessing that we could add a NT if we do not like Crumedly.

Hard to believe, but we could add up to 2 more DTs in addition to signing 2 and getting Brown back.

DE:  Brown, Robinson, (Wharton?)

NT:  Brown III, Wharton

Wharton will rotate with Robinson on passing downs. He's a pass rusher.

I was confused about that because his videos showed a NT alignment in KC and the Panther roster on the website had him as a DT, not a DE.  Are you speculating or have they said that?  I know that Brown III wanted more pass rushing opportunities, but heard nothing to confirm that the coaches agreed to that.

UPDATE:  I watched some more, and saw him at a 3t some too--so you are probably right.  Makes more sense.

I deduced that from Morgan's breakdown of him. He mentioned Robinson as the runstopper and was only intended to play on rushing downs but due to injuries he had to play almost every down. Wharton will be the pass rusher to compliment Robinson.

Ive been meaning to do a thread on the new editions DL vs OL, who would win in a 10 snap series??

Icky-------Lewis-------Cobrett/Mays------Hunt-------Motown

                --------------VS--------------

8th overall------Turk------Brown-------Dbrown-------Jones

You pick Mays or cobrett as the C.

8th overall pick cannot be Carter, pick any other edge.

Who wins best out of 10??

OL always going to win in a best out of 10 type thing, but it only takes one big Defensive play (sack, tfl) to put the offense behind the sticks and end up forcing a punt.

On paper we look improved. And at this point it should be nearly impossible to be worse than we were last year anyways. But if there's an NFL franchise out there that understands more than most the ultimate insignificance of checking off boxes as improved before actually seeing the results on the field it's the Panthers.

    • This 1000%.  Hey who wants to sign with the guy that couldn't even get his client the guaranteed contract of a 3rd round pick?  Lmao
    • I don't think it's any weird or unique clause, it's the offset language, same thing so many contract disputes are over. It just means that including it, if a player is cut and then signed by another team, the original team would be able to subtract how much they're getting paid by the new team from what they still owe him on their guaranteed money. For example, it's why Russell Wilson signed for the minimum last year with the Steelers as that was included in his Denver contract.  So if he signed with the Steelers for $1 million, he'd get $1 million less from the Broncos, if it was $2 million, he'd get $2 million less, basically he couldn't make any more money than he was already going to make, so you sign for the minimum to not take unnecessary cap room from your new team while giving extra cap room to your old one. The problem with trying to include it in rookie deals is that a team trying to include it, it says they think they don't really believe the player will make it 4 years with the team before they cut them.  And this usually comes up with one or two rookies in most seasons, the difference is it's usually handled much more quietly and not as public and ugly as this one. The other difference is that it's happening with the Bengals, which I believe I saw are one of the few (or only?) team that doesn't have protections for rookies in rookie and mini camps to be able to participate even if they haven't signed their contract yet.  The other teams have injury protections that allow them to still play, but the Bengals do not, which is also why this one is so public and ugly, as most the time this happens, the rookie is still participating in the rookie and subsequent mini camps, giving them more time to get the contract done before training camp when they'd then hold out.
