The First Round Tight End

Mr. Scot

How many years have we seen that prediction?

Ridiculous under John Fox, of course. Ridiculous still at the #1 overall spot.

If, however, the Panthers were to trade down a time or two looking for extra picks, and let's say someone like Kyle Rudolph were available at a mid-to-late first round spot, could it then happen under those circumstances?

Quite possibly :sosp:

I don't think it will happen - at least not this season mind you - but it's worth remembering that the notion is not so unthinkable as it used to be.

in my opinion if the panthers trade down twice to the middle of the first round in this draft, they can pick whoever the hell they want there and i'll view it as a win for starting the transition to chicoball off right with a plethora of prospects gained from additional picks.

If we could manage to trade out of the #1 spot, I don't think we would have any trouble finding another team to trade back again with. The top 5 on this class is viewed as weak in part, because the dropoff between those players and the next couple at their positions is very slim. Peterson to Prince, AJ to JJ & TSmith, Fairley to Dareus & Paea etc. If one guy can manage to really elevate himself at the combine and in workouts, then we could very well end up with quite a few first day picks in a deep first 2 rounds.

If we could pull this off, I would love to see us pick up a guy like Rudolph. Outside of a franchise QB, a tight end is our biggest need on offense. I still think Barny could be that guy. And unless Smitty really does want out, I just don't see the need at WR.

I wish we could trade down then try to trade that for a guy like john carlson or jacob tamme and pick up another pick or 2 in the process. TE is a posistion I have always thought we were weak at since Walls left, I mean come on, we have talent now but they don't get used the way they should, maybe we need a qb....

    • You would hope so. I’m confused why the sports world seems split on Bryce when he’s obviously not working out.
    • So let’s do the reverse? Make everyone agree everything he does is a disaster? I also think the whole “gaslighting” is on the eye of the beholder. It went from he can’t avoid one single sack countered with he actually did that well Sunday (with data backing it) to a little breakdown of why he is so bad. People are going to have different opinions. I’m also not going to pretend this wasn’t happening Day one with this little QB.
    • All this great stuff he has done, how often does he do it?  I have it at three or four games out of 14 where he was very good and then you get a drive here or a series there where there are some good things. Here is the gaslight part: everyone has put him on a curve with his first year the baseline, neglecting to understand how bad he was then. Even if he comes back twice as good, where does that really leave him? 25th ranked or thereabouts.     He had so far to go, and still does, it is a Major ‘settle’ to accept his play as worthy of giving him our future.  You want to settle when the Bucs have Mayfield, and the Saints have overtaken us at QB? We will be third in the division at QB. That is good enough for y’all?
