I think Dart is a fantasy scenario, IMO. You would have to be lightspeed stupid as a team to take that dude in the first, much less in the top 10.

I do think Sanders could slide to us, though.

Perhaps, but I am not one to think that you can say with surety that this or that QB is going to fail or be the golden goose. People have said all kind of things about prospects over the last decade. It's dart throwing to some extent, and all the chatter by scouts, coaches and execs simply turns out to be wrong more times than not and causes some profound misses. Just because they say it's so, doesn't make it so. Even more, the right setting can help a QB enhance their skill set or be fuged up. That's why you have guys like Jalen Hurts and Brock Purdy.

All I know is the track record of 1st round rookie Wr getting less than 500 yards in year 1 is very bleak.

This has got me curious... especially since we've been hearing that ~500yds number as a possible indicator of success for a drafted WR.

brb, compiling data that nobody but me and other people with an unhealthy football obsession might be interested in T_T

Finally got a chance to watch the entire presser, a few takeaways:

- It's clear that the team's first option (excluding one of the top 4 players dropping ex Mason Graham) is a trade down.

- Dan got caught on one of his responses when he said "if we're stuck at 8" the local media noticed and Joe Person immediately followed up with a question pressing him on the use of this phrase. Dan didn't really have a good response to it.

- Its not really a big deal, its probably good to let the rest of the league know we're willing to trade down and have them make us a offer

I mean, most receivers don't necessarily break out their rookie season. It wasn't a good year, including injuries, and it may have dampened excitement, but didn't snuff it completely out, at least probably for most people.

My response was more about the general state of our offensive weapons outside of RB. I've been one of the few people that still have relatively high hopes for XL. That being said. Our most reliable receiver is a guy who let's be honest is just a JAG at this stage at the tail end of his career and has less YAC ability than a sloth in quick sand. Maybe I'll feel more optimistic after the draft with the right WR addition. We'll see.

Don't know about first year production correlating to success. But there's heaps of analytics on WRs as prospects for fantasy football. And the hit rate for older prospects that didn't break out until thier senior season is pretty low

I'm not thrilled at the fact Dan thinks wheeling and dealing is his forte. He needs to be less focused on acquiring more picks and more focused on actually identifying legitimate talent.

We’re gonna trade down for a raw pass rusher that would get us laughed out of the room at 8.  There’s too many jalon walker mocks for it to be true now.

I haven't listened to it either, but that's good info. It sounds like,If someone doesn't fall, which Dan doesn't think will happen, trading down is the FO's desire. If they can't they'll just be "stuck."

Seriously. We've drafted a total of three good WRs. Smitty, Moose, and Moore. That's the whole list.

Yes, 💯 agree. Can we have something the resembles a balanced team before we cry about yet another pass catcher when we have some very promising young ones on roster already?

    • So happy that LaMelo got the layup to go and *won* the game. How happy he was after the game, that's what a young dude like him needs to keep it going and keep the belief going. If we lose, LaMelo gets blamed, and he's got an offseason to be in his head and hear the noise like the last few years. The season might still have an ugly ending, but weirdly feels like last night was HUGE for this team moving forward.
    • My thoughts on Carolina's post-season run: Obviously, the season began with a below average Freddie Andersen and everyone hoping Kochetkov would pick up the slack, until he got hurt. Enter Brandon Bussi who had a made-for-TV movie type run until the end of the season, when he came crashing back to earth, his save % drops under .900 and the team needs to score 5-6 goals to win games. Freddie has shown signs of a resurgence and Bussi looked pretty good the last 2 games of the season, but both sample sizes are small and questions abound for all 3 goalies. The physicality of playoff hockey will take its toll. Save for a few players, the Canes best players are small, their top 2 lines are small and there's no getting around that. The only way to protect the size disadvantage is a strong forecheck. Allowing opposing teams to establish the offensive zone and create board battles with smaller players will hurt Carolina. The Stankoven line could be a difference-maker. If they continue to play well against lower defensive pairs, it only adds to the depth of the team.  The Aho line had stretches of absenteeism during the season. The Canes cannot afford to have them dry up offensively and leave the scoring to Ehlers and the Stankoven line. If they aren't performing well, teams will simply roll their best lines out on the Canes best playing lines.  If the Canes can get by Ottawa and get some help from Boston against Buffalo, I think they have a legit shot to make the finals. Make no mistake, I think their toughest challenges are Ottawa and Buffalo in the East.
