Honest question. I know it aint retired. But say it was and years down the road we draft a QB and he requests #1. You think Cam agrees and lets him wear it?

Probably.  He's been very supportive of Bryce.  I would think if Bryce's number was 1 he would have given his blessing.

1, 59, 89 are more than likely getting retired at some point

58 may be a number in the org that ends up being used as a badge of honor for a top LB

I'd always said I didn't want to see 58 worn again, but I'd also never seen this idea brought up before, but now that I have, I freaking love it.

TD is the ultimate representation of Keep Pounding, dude's career should have been over after the knee injuries and then he goes on to become a franchise legend.

Let's make 58 a LB only number that needs TD's approval for who can wear it and turn it into a LB tradition here, would be really cool and in a way more fitting of what TD meant to the franchise than retiring it.

It goes deeper than that for me. When I started watching the Panthers as a kid I fell in love with Mark Fields’ story during that SB run. He wore #58. Then TD wore it and kept the tradition of the being the soul of the Panthers. The next time someone wears #58 I hope brings that same spirit

I like the idea of numbers - for example 58 - being "reserved" but not retired.

I would think it should only go to players on their second Panthers contract, and if former holders are part of the decision process, it should be a non-public conversation to allow former holders of the number to honestly say "Nah" without offending.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
