Kuechly was a generational player, especially with his mental side of the game which helped the defense in a way few (if any) other defensive players ever have.  If there was another Kuechly, then yea, it's a different story in how important of a player they would be to the defense.

Also, the game has changed in even the short time since Luke retired,  I think an elite corner is the 2nd most important player to have on defense after an elite pass rusher with how the game is played these days.

Couldn’t disagree with you more. The Eagles showed you what investing in the front seven will do. Ignore it all you want.

Without a good front seven, any corner is going to have issues. Without a good front 7, you will still lose games, no matter if you have the best corner of all time. 

I get your point, but I follow the money. Corners are paid a premium. Why would teams do that if it wasnt a priority?

It’s a shame that we didn’t build a strong enough/positive rapport with Frankie Luvu that would’ve convinced him to sign back with us a few years back. Still hate seeing him on the Commanders.

And then you need to add in scheme what's the point of having and elite corner if you don't let him shadow and shut down the opposition WR1

Pretty sure we offered him similar money. He just wanted to play for Dan Quinn and his defense.

I think we actually offered him a little more. I get the feeling he didn't like Evero's defense or how he was used.
