Tankathon: Where we stand on draft position…..

Does it matter? Look what Tepper and co did with their last 1st overall pick

I mean TMac is looking like a very solid pick.  In fact basically this whole draft is.

Honestly drafting QBs is a roll of the dice and BY was going either first or second no matter what (QB hungry) team was drafting there. While I still think Stroud was a better pick, BY is a case of fooling the majority of the league, not just our FO.

Xavier Legette is IMO far more damning.

We are going to have a hard time outsucking the Titans and Saints. The good news is that I think we will get a top 5 pick

We have a real shot at the 3rd pick as it stands right now. But realistically we will be picking 8 or 9 as we usually do.

I'm not ready to kick Legette to the curb just yet.

If anything I'm super impressed with Coker and T-Mac for producing with this QB.

Look at the TD Evans caught on Sunday - Young doesn't make that play.

Insert a competent NFL QB into this system and I think we're all signing a different tune.

Yeah, playing the Bucs the last game of the year might be an accidental win because they will be resting starters for the playoffs.

Looking at our schedule though, I'm not confident we beat the Dolphins or Cowboys at home. After that, I think a home win against the Saints might be our last win since I assume we won't win a road game this year

I've got our only shot at wins as the Jets and the Saints. I'm not confident we even win those. The Dolphins and Cowboys will beat the brakes off this team.

I hope we finish 7-10 just to spite the tankers. Draft position doesn’t mean a damn thing if nobody wants to coach here or come here from Free Agency.

It means you also need to have people make the correct pick.

Lol. I’ll never understand this. Wishing that we end up with worse talent at the draft seems counterproductive to the goal. I’ll give you some examples:

1. We missed out on Herbert because of 1 win. Love Brown but having a real QB would be nice. Finished 5-11 and lost Herbert to SOS tiebreakers.

2. 1 win versus Rivera and we got Horn instead of pick 3, which is where SF gave 3 firsts to trade up for Lance. Here’s who we could have gotten instead: 2021 #12 Micah Parsons, 2022 #29 George Karlaftis (we wouldn’t draft a G), #102 - Assume we waste that, and 2023 #29 based on what it seemed like we liked, either Joey Porter Jr or maybe La Porta. Heck, maybe we use Mingo’s pick and move up from #29 to get a real WR between Njigba-Smith, Addison, Flowers or Johnston. Might have even been enough to avoid the XL fiasco and get DeJean or Frazier.

Anyway, you can knock tankers all you want but having Herbert, Parsons, Karlaftis a real WR over Mingo could have changed our team. Don’t even care if Rhule was still here because we’d have made the playoffs in spite of him, especially if the real WR caused us to not draft XL. People want to stick their heads in the sand and call the draft random but there is undeniable proof that this team would be way better if we just went 4-12 instead of 5-11 in 2019 and 2020.

I dunno man, XL just doesn't seem to care enough/have it.  He wasn't lighting things up with Dalton last year, either.

How well has 7 years of Top 10 draft position gone so far?
