Player-led approach

How do we feel about this?

I am personally skeptical, while I like the communication we shouldn’t wait for players to tell coaches to put them in the best position to be successful.  Derrick Brown had to ask to be in more pass rushing opportunities and Dowdle had to ask for a specific play.

On the surface given our struggles I get why people would initially hear this and be apprehensive. But we do need players being vocal and being confident and speaking up. That is what builds a culture. Especially when it involves young players getting opportunities which was not always a thing with past coaches. But the head coach still needs to assert authority and take ownership of his group and make smart decisions on gamedays. It's gonna be a long season so we might as well just let it play out and revisit this later.

I don’t have a problem with this.  Coaches should listen to their players to an extent.   No one was bashing Wilks because Gilmore told him he needed to go erase Pitts when that’s all Atlanta really had.

I mean, they don’t need to listen to every player all the time.  But when your RB is in a grove our your best defenders speaks….its best to not ignore them

First thing I though of with Brown is he is coming back from major injury and maybe they were trying to pace him a little.
a guy new to the team  asking for a play, and I guess they put it in for him. I am not super concerned.

Listen to player input? Obviously yes. Being a player led team? No thanks.

It needs to be ours not your's. That's the difference between player led and player involved.

Just bad coaching. Go do your job and your players wouldn't look so bad at the begining of the season and most games. That includes the high priced free agents too.

I hate everything about this build.

Yea I agree, they are continuing to play bums like Nick Scott who was by far the worst player on the field every snap last season and again this season and they have talent players saying “I need more opportunities”, what is going on

A few different ways this can be taken depending on how you view things:

  • Negative: This coaching staff is so inept that players are having to practically beg them to put them in situations that we as fans have been screaming for. How could David Tepper and Bryce Young do this to us?
  • Positive: The coaches are listening to the players who are trusting the coaches!
  • Neutral: Collaboration can lead to good things, so hopefully this starts the upward trend we've been waiting for.

But the players are happy...

Winston Churchill was once thought to have said, “You can always count on America to do the right thing.  After all other options have been exhausted.”

This is our approach to football on Mint St.

I loved Churchill he was a piece of work. Some great quotes out there. I have seen that there is scandalous stuff about him but I was never interested enough to pursue the details.

I don’t think they can really go there with the QB of the team.
I mean look at the backlash even when we as fans do it.  The labels come out. They don’t need to get labeled

    • The thing about top drafted QBs is when a guy looks like a sure thing, the teams aren’t letting go of the pick. So it is luck of the draw if you do or do not get that lined up.  The only time it makes sense to draft a guy is if you are really positive about him not because you are under duress due to a dire need. That’s like being at the bar at closing time and you haven’t hooked up - you might settle for something you want to chew your arm off the get away from in the morning.
    • Bakers are hard to come by. Darnolds should still come with a rookie in that big picture. We got a Baker when we had a Darnold but it was year 3 of Rhule that should never have happened given the first 2 years. Sam has played 2 good teams and is 0-2 and his numbers continue to drop...Just like his year before Baker with us. That's not the answer but part of an answer.
    • Keyboard warriors says the person crashing out on Facebook over a little sign and now crashing out on the Huddle because people are pointing out that crashing out over a little sign is pretty dumb. LOL All of this over me saying you act cringy and then here you come and prove me right. A long-term Panthers fan and parent should have developed thicker skin than this. And yeah, I have kids hence why I'm more up to speed on kid slang than I otherwise would be. Although honestly "cringe" is pretty much common vernacular at this point. Not exactly edgy.
