They need to bench Ward until they fix their OL and have capable weapons. He can’t be developing in that poo show.

I am going to die on the "a rookie qb needs to sit" hill because I am right.  Sure there are exceptions obviously and sure "sitting" can mean various timelines.  But a rookie qb will never be hurt sitting 6 games or the entire year just to get your sea legs.  I think simply seeing how fast the nfl is from the sidelines, processing what is actually happening, listening etc is crazy important

Tennessee just fired their coach.  I guess thats good to do before he completely destroys ward.  I dont know though

I think there is an argument to make that firing your offensive minded HC 6 games into your #1 draft pick's rookie season is going to hurt him more than help him.

You know, kinda the exact same thing that happened to Bryce with Reich?

Some organizations are just seemingly broken beyond repair. Basically look at those teams that are routinely drafting in the top 10 year after year after year. It's bigger than a GM or a coach or a QB. It's overall organizational failure.

The thing is even the rookies who didnt sit and found sucess, would have been better long term sitting IMO.

Very true.

I just think in a situation like this, even if the HC is a problem, firing him this early in your #1 overall pick's career is going to end up doing more harm than good.

If you wanted a head start on other HC searches, that's fine, but fire him in Week 14 or something to accomplish that.  Continuity, even with questionable coaching decisions, is better for a rookie than making this change and now having even worse coaches in charge of his development.

I don't think there's any one size fits all answer. I think you play the rookie when A) you think he's ready and B) you think there's a reasonable expectation that the overall situation provides him an opportunity to be successful, not necessarily in terms of wins and losses but just in terms of giving him a fighting chance with surrounding talent. If you rush either one it's probably not gonna be pretty.

Reich never seemed like he wanted Bryce. I don't know if he was led to believe he'd have more input on the QB decision or if he just thought he'd be more persuasive but the wind just seemed to go out of his sails once we landed on Bryce. That situation is never gonna work out.

I like to use the analogy that a high draft pick QB is like a new supercar. Great to have one except too often, one forgets that they are high maintenance. A bad team secures their car under a cheap tent, puts regular gas in the tank, services it at Pep Boys, and then blames the car for not working properly and proceeds to get another one.

At the least, Ward getting sacked 25 times already is a massive red flag. If you can't protect your rookie QB, you do not put him out there. Otherwise, it's taking your supercar and immediately spinning it right into a tree. A few survive that rough of a start. Most do not.

If his seat was hot enough for him to be fired 6 games in then you should've just fired him when you made the decision to draft a QB #1 overall. I don't think you go from "this is definitely our guy" to "you're fired in 6 games". Seems like there would be had to have been doubts going in and that's not a recipe for success for a rookie QB.

Fair analogy, but if you want to take it a step further, firing your HC this early into his career is like buying that car, not taking care of it for the first month you have it, and then tossing the keys to a 16 year old who just got his license and doesn't know how to properly drive or maintain a car like that either.

Neither are good, one just seems worse to me.
