I have to admit, I was on the Trey Lance wagon.  While he's obviously not ever going to be a franchise QB1, I'm still curious about him as a bridge QB/QB2.

I was a Lance guy too but he needs to be on a team as a 2nd stringer continuing to learn. His best bet is a Geno Smith type turnaround and that is pretty rare.

Not saying that ship has sailed, but it's pretty close to the breakwater and headed towards open sea.

I wouldn’t write him off yet. He was always a bit of a project and hasn’t got to see the field much. He looked pretty decent in preseason for whatever that’s worth.

People were acting like Fields would have been the savior of this franchise as recently as last season. Maybe people don't want to admit that Rhule and Fitterer were right about something in regard to Jaycee.

I think it's the same crowd that was also pining after Anthony Richardson. It's the Forever Cammers that literally think every physical freak of a running QB is the next Cam.

Cam was great not because he was an insane athlete but a very good QB, as well. Most of these athletic freaks don't magically become a Cam, Lamar, Josh Allen, etc.

I don’t think Fields is as bad as he’s shown. I whole heartedly believe his development was ruined in Chicago. He needs to take that step back and go to a SF or LAR and wait his turn again. He’s so behind the curve and needs some time studying the pace of the NFL behind a good QB (aka not Russell Wilson) and good offensive coach

Randy Fasani, Matt Moore, Kyle Allen, Will Grier, Matt Corral.....oh all the future HOF players that just needed their shot!

People here wanted Weinke to start over Delhomme because he threw for over 400 yards but had 3 interceptions and it took 61 pass attempts.

If there's any hope for Fields, it's that he is playing for a godawful team and we've seen guys like Darnold and Geno do better elsewhere. But he needs to be with a much more competent team. Whether one will take him in...

That Geno Smith turnaround is turning back straight into the ground with his Raiders stint.

We've all seen highly touted QB prospects bust over and over again so it should never be seen as shocking when it happens, but man... given his skill set, Fields is just unbelievably terrible.

Clearly got absolutely nothing going on upstairs.

Most people that draft wanted Sewell and if not available, Slater was 1B.

Fields, Devonta Smith and Parsons definitely had their contingents but plenty wanted to stay away.

But not many were targeting DBs until it got leaked a few weeks before the draft that we were locked in on corners (Surtain & Horn)

Interesting factoid though is Horn has caught up to Slater and has only played 7 less games than him.  It's starting to look like a pick that was fine.  It was a tough pill to swallow with his injuries but he seems to be on a good streak right now (knocking on the largest timber I can find)

Lance is slated to be a FA if not re-sign. I know we have Dalton for one more year, but he's already got dead years on his deal, what's one more?  Trey is only 25-years old and is in his 5th season.  If with his original team (49ers) he'd be going into his golden ticket contract, but could be had at a bargain FA deal.  All I'm saying is the dude is sill young, incredibly athletic, prototypical QB size and finally healthy.  Kicking the tires is completely justified in my opinion.  He's not replacing Herbert in LA, so he might opt to hit the open market instead of getting locked up early.
