Speaking of revisiting trades: Brian Burns

Recommended Posts

I guess I am reaching but 7 games.

would him playing against a couple of shitty tackles skew those numbers at least some?
Some of these OTs need help regardless of who is across from them.

I am sorry I am naturally skeptical about stats without real context

If you can't tell that Morgan is investing assets to try and make a dominant pass rush I don't know what to tell you. Tried to sign the dude from Philly, brought in 4ish free agents, double dipped in the draft. The plan may not pan out but it is clear the plan is to build from the line out on both sides of the ball

I’m not faulting Morgan, it’s Scott’s dumbass I was referring to

PFF currently has him ranked as the 21st overall EDGE for whatever that's worth.  I'm not sure that's worth what he's taking up in cap percentage.  At least not for a winning team.

You think a guy who's 3rd in sacks, first in solo tackles, 3rd in win rate, 2nd in run stops, and first in pd should be ranked 21st???

Plus they have him at 8 sacks and the NFL has him listed at 9. So dunno what the discrepancy is for.

All it took was to draft a mini-Myles Garrett 2nd overall and draft another stud DE 5th overall after he fell.

BB like most NFLers needed help and those 2 young Hungary talent DE are taking the attention away from BB and ALL of them are piling up hurries, pressures, and sacks. Carter is legit and in the DROY firmly thus far.

Just a deal where 3 players are playing at a high level and you can not double each of them while there man-beast Dexter Lawrence, whom is like a better dbrown is leftd free.

Just a over-load of talent and BB is talented as well, hes getting the the least attention and piles up stats.

Yea I dunno.  I still don’t think he’s worth the franchise cornerstone contract.  Good player though.

That is true. Or close to it. Arguably. Lol.

At the same time wasn’t he ostensibly in charge of shipping them out or not keeping them and putting us in Bryce land? Just to keep in the  narrow field of QBs and not other moves.

David and Nicole Tepper were responsible for Bryce Young.  That's just undisputable fact.

You can look at the article and the pff stats and clearly see that he gets more attention than anyone else on that line. 🤦‍♂️

He isn’t but looking at what those guys are getting paid, paying him what he’s making now wouldn’t have been terrible, they should have and still should be looking at pairing some guys with brown to form a pretty dominant d line

But if you're planning to make a move for a QB in the future, and we were, those picks would have been huge trade capital. Now ask yourself how much better situation would we have been in if we had been able to exchange the Rams 1sts instead of our own and DJ Moore?

Would we still have ended up with the number 1 overall? Possibly.

Would we have kept Darnold since he was showing improvement and see if he improved, then had 4 1sts in 2 years to get our QB. Its possible.

We could have also used those 4 1sts to build around Bryce and our defense.

We could have done a lot. It wasn't just about Burns. It was admitting we weren't just a single piece away. Burns gave us 3 high value pieces to build from in trade value if played correctly. For a GM with any vision for the future, that's a grand slam and you're signing that trade before they can reconsider.

The answer as always was take the Rams deal

The second option was as soon as you hang up on the Rams you extend him right then (probably would have been around 25-27 mill a year around that time)

The third and worst option is what the panthers ended up doing (not Dan's fault)

    • I agree here.  Falcons won't lay down. Tampa SHOULD win. However, it is a short week and both teams need this game to be played different ways. Tampa needs to have time to scheme and keep this game fast paced, Atlanta needs this to be a physical heavy run slobberknocker which is more likely to happen with just 3 days. Keep in mind, Raheem should probably be fired tomorrow but won't be because it's a short week, he can save some grace and coach for his job Thursday. I wouldn't be surprised to see him be super aggressive on calls all night.  I worry about the Saints as well. I really hope our week of rest to get healthy and realign focus outweighs the risk of us getting lazy again. Hopefully, the last time we played them was a wake up call and they come in motivated and pissed off to prove a point. However, the Saints are having fun shitting on everyone and I would not be surprised if it was a repeat. Somehow I feel us and the Bucs will both find a way to lose.

    • 1) This article is from the middle of the 2024 season. There was no season that ended with 202.8 YPG. By the end of the season, passing numbers had bounced up to 217. We shared those numbers here a few times. The fact that from Oct to end of season numbers went up by ~14 yards suggests we'll see a bounce up this year too.   2) The article you're referencing is from 2016 onwards... My numbers were not, just last few years. That's the time period we're talking about. 3) There is DEFINITELY a long term trend down. My comment was regarding it is unlikely I see teams changing strategies with regards to QBs because the numbers have been pretty consistent for the last 4 years.
