It doesn’t have to be Tepper saying XL or else. 
people want to analyze in a vacuum of their value system. If you put yourself into the place and time and circumstances to find the motivations for why something was done, you are way out of that nice pure vacuum. 

Surely I don’t need to restate that our leading receiver from 2023 played a position different from what XL would play? How they are brand new hires tasked with Bryce as priority number one for the 2024 season. 

They wanted to add to AT. 
I could keep typing but you what I mean. They did a need pick for the short term because they had pressure on them to get that QB going. They did much better this past year on the WR pick. I kind of got over it.

She said "the guy that I like." It's hardly a smoking gun, but maybe. We just don't know the specifics. They could just be philosophizing, or talking about anyone. Could be talking about 2023.

The leash is long and there's still time but he definitely exposed himself as not the offensive wiz he was cracked up to be. Looking like your average OC cosplaying as head coach. I feel like you could swap him and Evero and the results would be about the same

A few things here.  This is from the Blueprint series, they are absolutely talking about what lead up to drafting XL.  Go back and watch it.  Again this is produced by the Panthers and they for some godforsaken reason thought it would be good to include this clip of the owners wife not only telling morgan who she liked but also it would be ok to trade up for him.  The owners wife that is in the draft room.  This clip could have easily never seen the light of day but yet they thought it was a good idea to include it.  Talk about tone deaf.   I will ask again, why the fug is she giving any input on a goddamn wr?  What are her fuging credentials other then pegging the owner?

 

So to your original question about them meddling, its not only clear they still are and they seem to be flaunting it.

The wife thing is infuriating because it just shows the kind of shitshow Tepper has really run and how insanely unprofessional we are as a franchise.

If you have any random, unqualified family member putting their two cents in to a critical draft decision, you are already off the reservation. IMO, that can largely extend to the owner, as well. I realize they have privileges there due to the ownership but I am firmly in the camp of, "Let your football people handle football stuff."

We don't do that. Tepper is too smart to let these peons run his IRL fantasy football team.

If Dan Morgan drafted XL because the owner's wife "suggested" it that's on him. Have some balls and take your guy regardless. If you get fired, you get fired. Why any GM worth a damn would want a job under those circumstances is beyond me.

Especially Morgan, who was in a position to know how much ownership meddled in football decisions as the assistant GM under Fitterer.

If he took the job knowing that he'd be nothing but a rubber stamp for the Teppers then he has little to no integrity and is just as much to blame as they are.

Its the Panthers retirement plan. Sign a big contract. Work 2 years or less. Get fired. Retirement or go elsewhere with enough money to never work again a day in your life.

I have preached patience with Canales and will continue to do so, but it is an absolutely fatal flaw if he doesn't but Chuba into the RB2 role.  Rico Dowdle is the only chance that this offense has of being respectable.  There are two ways this season goes down for Canales:

1 - Stay scrappy, maybe sneak into the playoffs if we run the offense around Rico, get a mid to low first round pick, attempt to draft more "support" for Young.  This is actually a worst case scenario for Canales because he can't go get his QB and we are stuck trying to build the team around minime.

2 - Be who we thought we were.  Trash.  See Young for what he is, trade or release him, draft a new QB that is coming to a squad with a lot of offensive talent and let Canales really have HIS guy.  The question is will Tepper have the patience to keep Canales on board if this is how the season goes.

The real fun question is going to be who Tepper loses patience with first. Bryce? Dave? Dan?

I don't think it will be at the same time, I think it's gonna be spread out. I somewhat suspect Dave will be first, Bryce will be second and Dan will be last.

The board doesn’t seem to have the patience to allow Canales to try a new QB. If that is representative of the rest of the fan base it is going to get ugly.

Yep and Evero is good at setting the wrong kinda records, anytime he plays a top 15 team

the latest, making james cook the rb who breaks franchise record in yards  at 216  because his defense couldnt stop a toss play. The onky reason it wasnt more was mcdermott stopped it.  Pathetic 

and this follows the worst run defense in nfl history last year 

As for Canales, imho no way should canales be in duo roles

only the highest level coaches are and he is no Andy Reid or sean Mcvay   He wasnt  even  high in Tampa

I’d love to get a seasoned OC or Assistant HC for Canales. I feel like he’s doing a good job he just needs someone next to him to help him around some of the non-coaching parts of the gig that he may not quite get yet. People forget that a lot of McVays success came from having Wade Phillips to teach him how to be a HC
