REPORT: Rico Dowdle is rumored to be open for trade by the Panthers

Recommended Posts

Yea I don't think this happens. After all the flack DC is/has been catching for starting Chuba over Rico. And I mean flack from everywhere...internet, fans, other team fans, reporters, announcers, etc. As competitive as we tend to be I can guarantee its debated among players and staff, maybe a very small percentage but to believe they all agree with Dave is crazy to me. Canales has finally made the beyond obvious switch only to trade the same player the week after? The optics would look wild too.

Then again, I could 100% see it

Dowdle was making Panther and NFL history. Ima need a 3rd at min.

As far as the OP goes I need to see better sources than some "trust me" level rando sports Twitter account. All these accounts have checkmarks since the new owner fully monetized the platform. It's a free for all in terms of spreading misinformation.

I'd argue that blowing up the season for a 4th round pick is pretty short sighted.  Rico is the most productive offensive player we have.  Unless you're in favor of firing everyone, I don't see how you can think this is rational.  If Canales is going to work they need to build something this season.  Not strip it for day 3 picks.

Getting value for a RB that was always a one year rental is smart. He turns 28 before next year and is in a contract year. It’s not like we have no depth behind him. Chuba was a bogus holding call from XL away from having a solid game and we need to see what we have in ETN. Our OL is made for run blocking and Rico feasted on some terrible defenses. He played great and his value will never be higher. Selling high is not short sighted IMO. Especially on a RB who won’t be here next year.

No one is giving a 3rd for a RB rental for half a season. So your other option is letting him walk for nothing next year.

If you think a 4th round pick is worth more than Dowdle's production this year then we just aren't going to agree.  That's crazy to me.  Especially given the context around the situation with the team.

Okay here is the thing, those were bad defenses he tore up. Tne holes were large.
He was great don’t get me wrong. It’s just that I see teams focusing on shutting our run down and forcing Bryce to beat them.
I think they will be able to and then what is he?

Nutshell, he probably won’t want to re-sign, the run game is going to be shut down a lot, maybe the smart move is listen to offers and if we get a no brainer take it.

Giants need a RB. Would you trade him for Jameis?

if you look at the numbers going back to last year when he started for Dallas the last part of the season Rico has been one of the most efficient rushers in the league.

I dont believe this claim by the way, Canales just hinted in the presser this week they're going to be giving Dowdle a bigger role in the offense.

It's also unconscionably inconsistent to be seeking to trade players like Dowdle who have been a much needed jolt of life to the team while having virtually no standards for your QB's. I cannot state that enough. Incompetence beyond words.

I don’t think his production is sustainable with a banged up OL and better defenses on the horizon. Like I said his value will never be higher. So I’m taking that into consideration along with the drop off in value from Rico vs a healthy Chuba/ETN.

If this team lets Rico walk without trying to sign him if he continues to ball out and rolls with Chuba 2 and 3 yards amd a cloud of dust next season it would be on brand for them.

There's no way they'd do this...

Probably not but the pick will likely be in the early 60s and their RBs have honestly been terrible for years now, I think Dowdle would fit great in that offense and give their already strong passing offense a complimentary running game.
