Why do people think Bryce Young won this game yesterday?

The media created the mythos around Young and they’re going with it until the wheels fall off

Do you have any evidence of this?

Literally the first article that pops up when you google Bryce Young right now is, "Insider says Bryce Young isn't going to be a superstar, but that's fine." Source

The Carolina Panthers finally know who they are, and it's not a QB-led team. Bryce Young is a player they can win with, but he's not the game-changing prospect everyone thought he'd be coming out of the draft. It's certainly better than being a bust, but it's not the best-case scenario.

Can you show me at least one source from a legitimate media rep that shows them building a mythos around Bryce Young?  No media outlet is going to outright say Bryce sucks - he's a nice guy by all accounts.  But I haven't seen anyone try and act like Bryce is anything more than he is.  But maybe I'm wrong, and you can show me.

And see, even me making this post will get me labeled a "Bryce Apologist", even though I have been out on him the last two seasons.

I think we have some revisionist around it here because of all the drama around Tepper's involvement. If you pull up any scouting report from the time you'll see the same take. WalterFootball's report sums up the media's thoughts on him well: "Young has everything the NFL is looking for in a quarterback except in terms of weight and height." He was the consensus top QB of his draft and the only real question mark they had about him was whether his body could hold up in the NFL.

The infamous Steph Curry comparison the Panthers latched onto came from Albert Breer.

The excuses I've heard for him are more anecdotal. Bryce Young's development is the only bullet point most NFL fans have on the Panthers right now. That and the coaching turnover. If you're not actually watching our games it's easy to believe this is just a dysfunctional organization that doesn't know how to unleash this talented Heisman winner.  I've seen media and fans alike run with that narrative way more than criticizing Young outright. Whenever we win there's flocks who use it as proof that the Panthers just need to be patient.

But we aren't talking about how the media talked about him before he was drafted.  We are talking about how the media talks about him right now.

If you’re honestly saying that you’ve never seen a media source hyping up Bryce young despite everything else we’ve seen, I want to live in the world you live in.

Why do you intentionally twist things that people say?

Please show me in my post where I said that the media has NEVER hyped up Bryce Young.

The person I was responding to said that the media has created a mythos around Bryce Young.  And I asked if he can show me anything recently where the media has spoken about Bryce Young as if they are building a mythos around him.  And no, I don't consider articles from before he was drafted to mean jack ish - people are wrong, including you, including myself, about prospects every year.

Since the season has started, can you give me one media outlet that has deemed Bryce Young to be a franchise QB / long-term answer at the position?  Don't bother responding with anything else.

Sorry, someone probably said this, but I'm not going back over 9 pages 😃

QBs get an outsized amount of credit for wins and losses.  Bryce is the same way.

He was far from good except for a handful of plays.  That's not a recipe for success long term.  On the flip side, with the running game and defense playing so well, he's not being asked to do too much.  He doesn't look like "the guy."  I'm all for bringing in real competition with Bryce this year.

The last thing I will say, because I'm not going down this Bryce Young rabbit hole again, especially with said poster:

You guys aren't the only people who see what you see.  Stop focusing on small minority of fans and voices.  The media has accepted Bryce Young isn't anything more than a game-manager at best.  You can literally look up "Bryce Young Franchise QB" and the only thing that pops up is that the Panthers MAY be viewing him as one, but no media outlet supports it.  The vast majority of fans accept he won't ever be the guy.

It is such a stupid conversation for this reason.  You guys get so tripped up over such a small minority.  Bryce Young SUCKS.  We get it.

And feel free to continue to converse about it.  It is a discussion forum.  Have at it.  But can we just stop using words like "retard" to describe people who might not want to go as far as you all do?  Or acting like you have some unique ability to see things in the game that others can't?  There is no "mythos" around Bryce Young except in your head.

And sometimes it helps to get off the internet.  I don't think there is any Panthers fan I have met in IRL that pounds the table for Bryce Young the way some of ya'll suggest they do.  And because of my job and how often I go to the games, I talk to a LOT.  I'm far from the most knowledgeable football fan, but I am confident I have a good feel for how a good chunk of the city feels.

Since the season started? mythos would be anything that describes him as “just winning games” or coming on in the fourth quarter or talking about “game winning drives” or whatever. That’s what mythos is.

any time mark schlereth opens his mouth about Bryce he’s basically invoking the Greek oral tradition to talk about how a demigod is about to overcome the odds.

mythos is just recurrent plot structure or themes.

Bryce Young was drafted number 1 overall and a much heralded pick from college and those credentials have carried him up to this point with fans and media to some extent. If UDFA Jake Delhomme had played like Bryce has you wouldn’t remember his name.

I like Bryce the person and gave him a lot of time as a fan of the panthers but he is not it. Time to overlook sunk cost and move on.

My man didn't even read the article he linked.

In this article:

Quote

Bryce Young was far from his best, but he did manage to lead the Panthers on his ninth career game-winning drive. Here's what he had to say about it afterwards.

Along the way Young completed passes to Jalen Coker and Tetairoa McMillan, but he really can't take much credit for this win - or for the last drive.

Like you really sourced an article where the guy literally says Bryce can't take credit for the win.  Did you think I wouldn't read it?  Why would anyone looking to build a "mythos" around him say he can't take credit?

And how is saying something factual ie "Bryce gets his 9th career GWD" building a mythos?  Game-winning drives have always been credited to QBs since the beginning of time.  If you have a problem with that, blame the NFL, not the journalist.

And Odysseus lost his crew. And all the argonauts died. And Orpheus turned and looked back at Persephone.

failing while accomplishing your task is not uncommon, or succeeding in a way you weren’t expecting is the whole point of mythos and greek tragedy

The more I think about this Bryce is somewhat of a tragic figure. Hope he doesn’t have sex with his mom.

Citing various hero myths in response to being wrong is not empirical evidence that you have a point. It's weaponized arrogance. Act humbly.

I’ve never once in my life gotten to use my undergraduate degree and you’re not going to take this moment from me.

don’t worry, Nolan’s Odysseus is coming out soon. You’ll understand. (It’s going to freaking own btw)
