If Bryce had a few not horrible games we could be worse than any of those situations because we could be in year one of crazy QB contract next year. With him as the prize.
Where they are closer to being free.

The true worst case scenario. Bryce for another few years and then having to eat dead cap wasted on him. Well worst case for me because I can't sit through more of Bryce already.

I still think any potential production loss is minimal and we are already operating off of run the ball, play stingy D and try to not turn over the ball we would do with a rookie or project.

Using our own mistake to minimize someone else's mistake doesn't make for a good argument.

Lance is not a starter. Doubt he ever will be.

I would think Jim Harbaugh knows a little more about QBs that our staff judging by the track records.  Harbaugh liked what he saw enough to remove Heincke (who is a bad starter but solid backup in this league) from his roster to keep Lance as QB2.

So Trey Lance looked awful in preseason 2 years ago and looked completely different this year.  The man has always needed reps.  I'm not saying he is the answer by any means but writing him off from such little experience at the age of 25 is premature at best.  People were claiming Darnold and Jones were done as QBs at one time as well.

I'm all for signing him to a backup deal and letting it be an open competition.  Low risk, high reward.

if Lance, Heinke, and Young were all 3 in a legit non-bias QB battle.  Bryce Young would finish 3rd.

All about the low risk high reward potential of players.  Especially QBs.
We don’t need a star to instantly improve. A guy that can see the field and complete something 15 -30 yards and work from under center and run play action. And a healthy OL would be helpful.  That probably gets us a winning record.
I think we are losing at least ten this year.

What’s the worst that can happen? He is bad and we have a bad backup QB?

Trey Lance got a shot.

He couldn't work out in the most QB friendly system imaginable.

He then had another club release him after trading a 4th.

He's not good, he's not a Danny Jones/Darnold type situation.

Same goes for Zach Wilson & Will Levis in my book.  They don't cut it - it's not like a guy who's shown good ability but just never had the right situation.  They were given shots and busted.

Funny thing is, Will Levis arguably played better than Cam Ward for Tennessee.  I say this as a Ward fan and someone who is indifferent on Levis.  A lot of weight in put into where these guys were drafted.  Levis also has an injury history though and plays pretty physical which is a bad combo.

I have seen Levis. Some. Does really boneheaded stuff. Otherwise has talent as far as I can tell.

I haven’t seen enough of Lance or Wilson.
And won’t be spending any time on it soon because this situation here is not resolved and it could turn out ti be wasted. Or unnecessary.

I do not agree with you saying QB Trey Lance is a mistake and I am anxious to see if NFL G.M's feel the same way when Trey becomes a free agent at seasons end.

Brother he lost to 3 QBs ranked in everyone's top 12. The current times around here, I feel most of us would welcome a QB around the 16th ranked. Lance could be that among many others. He's still very young and should had enough reps to determine if he can be one of the 32 starters each week.

I still stand by my draft 1-2(prefer using one of the 2nd or 3rd rounders). Vet and another failed 1st/_____ ala Wilson lance Pickett etc. I thought the staff wanted Drew Lock, but BY finished well enough and they decided to re-sign his BFF Dalton.

That's who I will toss out there- Dan will trade for Drew Lock or Milroe.

I had heard this staff was planning on signing Lock before BY miracle 9 games finish....

So draft 3rd rounder and 6th rounder. Trade a 2028 6th for Drew Lock and 2028 7th. Sign Trey Lance to some 2 year deal. May the best man win....

No way in hell Drew Lock is worth two draft picks.
