I never base "great performance" choices on stats.

There's soooo much more to football than stats.

1 million percent agree.

But this isn't "football", it's the "air and ground player of the week"

I think you should ONLY be looking at stats for something like that, and maybe that's just a personal way of interpreting this award.

Jerome Bettis once took part in a game where he had five carries for negative one yard. Did those stats define his importance in that game?

I'm always gonna look at the role somebody plays as infinitely more important than their stats.

Bryce Young

Anthony Richardson

CJ Stroud

Will Levis

CJ is in the lead but BY is catching him if you compare stats. Right now I believe we picked the best QB in that class.

Stroud has a Pro Bowl but BY could make a case if he stays consistent.

I've got to drink a triple Scotch before I comment on that.

But we're not talking about someone's role or importance to a team, that's an entirely different conversation.  In general, when you're just talking about building a roster or how a team looks, or anything along those lines, then I 100% agree with you.

But this is for the Air and Ground Player of the Week.

To me, I've always interpreted that as who had the best passing/rushing/recieving performances of the week, completely separate and irrelevant to a team's success/failure in that week.

I wouldn't take the same issue with it if someone said he should be nominated for Offensive Player of the Week, that would be an award where the things you're talking about should be factored in.  I just feel this is not that type of weekly award where role or team outcome has any factor in it, and it's who had the best statistical output that week.

I think the stats he’s nominated for are 3 TDs of 30+ yds, 2 on 4th down, 0 turnovers, 75% completion, 147 rating, etc. Unless “stats” is code for “400 yards”, his stats are certainly worthy of winning the award.

It isnt 2019 anymore. Drake Maybe is the MVP favorite and hasn’t even thrown for 300 yards in a game.

Again, as I've noted in my other posts in this thread, we're not talking about the actual MVP award, we're talking about an award who's purpose is to award great statistical performances.

And beyond that, you used a terrible example to try and support Bryce here.

No, he doesn't have a 300 yard game, but he's also currently leading the league in passing yards (yes, he'll fall a couple spots while on by this week, but he's still currently 4th in the league in YPG), while Bryce is currently 19th.

Bryce just threw for 206 yards, his 3rd most yards in a game this year.

Drake has only thrown for less than 206 yards one time all year.  Against us, in a game they won by 29 points and he went 14/17 for 203 with 2 TDs and another rushing TD on top.

Drake also only has 3 games this season having thrown less than 259 yards.

Bryce has 5 career games over 259 yards passing.

Drake Maye is 11-2 and leads the NFL in passing yards, completion % and is in the battle for TDs.  (he doesn't have a single game under 200).  On pace for 4400 which would have put him right outside the top 5 in 2019.  A good game here or there and he would be top 5 back then.

now they get an extra game now but the dude is airing it out......but you can only do so much when you win.

    • ^I want that, but Rodriguez over KC. Don't hate KC as much at that spot, but rather take a WR with the pick we gain in that trade than in the 1st.
    • I think there is good points in this thread to what the team needs to do. 1) Ball isn't really the issue but, he needs reigned in.  Coach and he need to realize when things aren't falling from the three and learn to play other facets of the game.  He's an amazing talent and when he's on, he's on.  But he can also shoot you out of a game.  We're lucky Miami went that way but that is too many missed threes.  He still needs to bulk up if he can, but he needs to drive more.  He's pretty good at finishing usually and hopefully the fouls come (probably not though).   2) The whole team needs to be more physical.  As others have stated, we need more bulk in our bigs.  Diabate is a hurricane of energy but cannot go against the larger centers.  I love him on the team but he should be more of a match up type guy or energy off the bench.  I think he'd be insane off the bench.  However I think the biggest issue with Diabate and Kaulk is the lack of offensive game.  The lack of a jump shot or anything.  Teams figured out to just leave them on the screen and crash lanes.  There has to be some sort of threat.  We need a 4 and a 5 that can do those things and stretch out the court. 3) Bridges.  He's just undersized.  However, I feel he really threw his all into it the last few weeks when others were gassed.  He was ok not being a focal point.  I'd like to have him off the bench as well but I assume he'd be traded to make things work.  4) Miller.  Dude can light it up when on, but disappears for quarters at a time.  Also he needs to work on ball handling and passing.  He's a turnover machine at bad times.  Also hopefully over the injury so he can bulk up too.   5) Kon. Just a rookie.  Long season and back injury.  I have no doubt he'll be back stronger and focused.  Needs to work on defense and physicality like the whole team but yes, a rookie he'll get there. 6) Coby.  Has to be resigned, no question.  The bench lineup is rough without him running the point.  Team has big potential and the front office seems sharp.  They seen the hive and how crazy it got and how much the city wants this.
