Jonathan Brooks parts of Joe Person Athletic article dec 8

Recommended Posts

I see Brooks as any other late round or UDFA at this point. If he makes the team, fine. If not, nothing lost. Nothing against the guy and hate his career has been derailed by this injury, but a great run blocking line can turn an average RB into a great RB and vice versa. Easy to get lots of yards as a back when you aren't getting 1st contact until 2 or 3 yards past the LoS.

I'm not a fan of rolling with Chuba and Dowdle on sizeable contracts next year.  I'd rather let Dowdle walk and either sign another cheap vet or let Chuba be our feature back again.

We don't know that Dowdle will be pricey. Remember we signed him for nickels after a 1k+ yd rushing campaign.

I was under the impression this is a one year prove it deal.  He is in the top 10 in yards but even if he is mid for a contract, I'm not really interested.  He is starting to slow down at the end of the year like he did in Dallas.

It is a prove it deal but he's sorta proving he can't handle the load all season. I dont know anyone will overpay for a back that can't carry that load.

17 games with the kind of load where you gain over 200 yards a game even half the time there isn’t a back who won’t get beat down and that not show up on the field.
I think the best answer is keep the OL strong enough for regular guys to run for gains.  Let people sign our one year wonders to the bigger deals and just reload.
The only real inhibitor there is pass blocking. You have to have guys that are decent at it.

Most on the front page have it right. NFL is a meat grinder and each year around 300 players are replaced....They don't wait around, your replaceability is at 99%. Just the burrows, parson, Jackson, malhomes, garret, etc They are the only ones not worrying about getting dropped for some rookie....but give it time....30 years old is a fossil in the NFL now, barely no one is 32 unless you had elite skills in your 20s. Brooks is also at a high risk for all injuries given 2 years and 2 ACLs within 2 years. Odds are stacked against him, Panthers have to act like he's not on the roster until roster cuts....

I am hoping that he recovers and can be a serviceable backup to Chubba.  I really want to keep Dowdle but, it's a money crunch and you can't keep everyone.  We have Chubba so we'll probably let him go elsewhere.  Just hope it isn't in our division.

Brooks has a great mentor in TD.  If there is anyone who can give him advice it's him.  I like that TD gave information on how he worked out and recovered.
