Film run game issue, getting beat at Right Guard

Recommended Posts

12 min Film review below   My quick summary

1  run game calls went away from what gave them success

2  plus Corbett has been a liability ….getting beat frequently

3. Most success with   rpos success bad toss plays

4. Stating the obvious, hunt’s return could vastly improve the pa tigers chances Saturday

Corbett has been a liability or a walking injury his entire tenure here, but we keep bringing him back. I swear this franchise loves hanging onto coal hoping it will turn into a diamond.

The Carolina Hoarders, all your terrible players belong to us for multiple seasons.

I feel like he was really, really good year 1.  Ever since that initial injury it has been all downhill since.  He is backup-quality now, but I think we keep him bc he’s a good locker room guy.

Corbett had one solid year then fell off. I thought it was because of the center position change...nah.

However, I do like him more than Zavala at the moment.

And Panthers Advice has quickly became one of my favorite youtube channels on anything Panther related.

I guess Ian thomas was a hell of a locker room guy. It is repeated ad nauseam with this franchise. Holding players 3-4 seasons that couldnt make another roster.

Anyone else notice Rico keeps slipping on a lot of runs, I forgot what game but he had an easy TD but slipped.

But yeah the run game has been awful, teams like Seattle and the 49ers left two high safeties the entire game and we still couldn’t run.

I will check in with him too pretty frequently. I don’t always agree with him but he has good video presentations and isn’t a total Bryce Stan like some of the other regulars.

He feels like the only consistent one. Duncan fell off a cliff this year

I got irritated with Duncan over what I felt was too much fanning. Which, that’s what a lot of people are about and maybe it helps his numbers. I don’t know.

I had to duck out though. I watched him a good bit last year.

PS, also, there are some other ones that are pretty good but just don’t have time or the want to spend time making the rounds to all these sources. The Advice guy serves my needs and like you said he is consistent.

As bad as Corbett's run blocking has been, I think his pass blocking has been even worse...

The weird thing is we know Corbett is probably our weakest lineman out there, yet we still constantly call inside run plays to the right

Its maddening to watch in real time. How can they watch the tape and continue to run it to his side?

    • overall agree on the draft grade as a whole on on each pick, but every time I read (and I have read it more than once) that we "gave up two firsts" for Bryce, I am confused. We gave up the 2024 first, but we swapped 2023 firsts, so we didn't give up anything there. We did give up our former first rounder in DJ, but I don't think thats what you mean as one of the "firsts" we gave up.
    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
