Depends on price.

Also, upgrading via the draft is very cheap. Cheaper than extending him on a starting deal. This is something that is long overdue.

I agree on all accounts here, I'm just saying they have pushed that ball to the point that not with ickeys injury they need a T and we need at least 2 ILBS a S a TE veteran pass rusher/true #1 edge....

Lots of holes honestly....

Remember that Coker isn't actually a free agent at all. He is an ERFA which means we can technically ink at league minimum and he cannot negotiate with other teams.

Oh I totally get it, but just because we can do that, doesn't mean it's the right way to go.  If this was Madden with video game players, then sure, do it because it helps the cap.  But with real people, doing that is likely only going to piss him off and make him want to sign with any other team the following offseason.

I'm not saying give him a stupid deal, but giving him like $3-5 million for the one season would be a massive raise over the minimum, it wouldn't hurt our cap situation, he'd still likely play well above that level of contract, and it would help keep him happier with the franchise.

But in the end, all I really want is for them to find a way to make sure they won't be needing to do deals for both Coker and T-Mac in the same offseason, as that's a terrible way to spend your cap space in a single offseason.  Separating their contracts expiring/negotiations into different offseasons would be the best way to keep them both around long term.

Yeah, Ikey and BC have major injuries is bad because it creates two big holes that we weren't anticipating having to fill.

But, overall we did know even before the season started that there was a ton of work needed on the roster. We still have at least three good to very good offseasons of work for this to be a good roster, IMO.

Shaheed got a 2 year, $6.2 mil deal as an ERFA.

ERFA price for one year would be $1.145 mil for Coker.

I do think we sign him to a short term deal but it may not be at the prices you guys are talking about. That's not very common.

I found one comment to be interesting.  he mentions Simmons, who has busted as a LB, as a 6' 4" 238 lb safety.  I think they will have him drop 20 lbs and possibly try him at ..... Free Safety ish.  Reason?  he has shown instincts on special teams and he ran a 4.39 at the combine in 2020.

Why not?

I like the Tremayne idea.  A good special team player and he has some good hands.  He was targeted 17 times and grabbed 14 balls for 160--that is nearly half the yardage XL had in 123 passing snaps.  Legette had 363 yards in 428 passing snaps (59 targets, 35 catches).

Considering that he had just under half the yardage in about 1/4 of the snaps, and when he was on the field it is likely that there were 4 WRs and not 2 or 3--he outperformed Legette.

He's always been a great athlete perfect for special teams work
