Mock draft LT at 19

Recommended Posts

I get the need with the Icky injury but looking at this defense and the salary cap we already have allocated to the OL man it is a tough pill to swallow to sink another first round pick in the offense. Where does it end?

Never. You should be trying to put starting your offensive linemen out of a job every draft.

Historically, for whatever reason, we don't value drafting lineman every year, or we will draft some bum in the late rounds and that will be it. Then we see teams with depth and good starters and we wonder why we can't have nice things.

Sounds reasonable in January but when the fall rolls around again and our defense isn't singlehandedly winning us games and our OL is banged up anyways we know how it's gonna go.

And to be clear I am very pro drafting OL. The issue is we are just burying ourselves in salary cap to the position group. The FA signings on guards are just not justifiable.

I was in favor of using the firt two picks on defense until Icky got hurt. We have a hole at left tackle and that would be a tough position to fill in free agency.

Trust me I'm with you on the need. It's the investment in the group as a whole. See my post above.

After years of seeing Cam and other QB's getting crushed by some awful Olines I'll never complain about dumping resources into it.

No more Byron Bells and Nate Chandlers.

I hate to be this way, but that might be what we are doing this season. I sure hope not.

I look at drafting LOT, or OT, as cap friendly.
It doesn’t look like we will be dropping 100 million on Icky.
We will hopefully uncoupling the bank from Hunt after a couple more years. We won’t be paying Moton forever.

I can’t see anything good that would come from underserving the OL and tight now it is LOT that needs addressing.
Naturally I’d prefer not to use a 1st round pick but we don’t have the luxury of taking a guy in the 3rd and giving him a couple of seasons to develop.
If we have to use it just make it count.

I'm ok with Yosh as a swing tackle and spot starter but I really hope we don't plan on going into next year with him as our starting LT.

I like Ickey and I'm sure the organization does to, but we have to be honest with ourselves a patellar tendon tear is a significant injury and will absolutely affect Ickey's long term outlook. Thers's a good chance he's never the same player.

You either have to overpay for a mid LT in free agency like a Rasheed Walker or spend a premium pick on one this upcoming draft. I'd prefer us to pick an OT in the draft for the cheaper contract and give us the ability to slide them over to RT if Ickey is able to come back and we will need a replacement for Moton in the coming years.
