Should Dave Canalas be on the HOT seat??

Hard to say.

People keep talking about how Tepper has a trigger finger, but it isn't a Tepper thing.  Look at how many HCs currently have lasted 3+ years.  It ain't a whole lot. 

It is very difficult to make it to a 4th year with 3 straight losing records.  If that were to happen again, I could see him being let go.  But I don't think he's necessarily on the "hot seat", as in I don't see any way he's fired midseason, and those are the types of HCs I would consider on the hot seat.

If the team starts out losing and it doesn’t turn that seat will get warm this year.
I don’t anticipate disaster but at the same time don’t have am overly optimistic forecast. Course we are not even into the team building for 2026 yet.

I think as long as the Panthers are competitive with Canales they should keep him. Pepper needs to repair his/the teams image as a place prized free agents aren't hesitant to consider. Just dont do any crazy poo for a few years.

After last season, it was the same question. And the answer most people came to was "If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's gone."

He made the playoffs. No matter how it was done, we made it to the playoffs.

He's safe. He's going to have a chance to keep working this out, even if next season isn't a playoff one. 

I think we'll do better next year than we did this season. There's something being built here.

I don't think so, even if next year goes badly he's shown enough improvement thus far to keep plugging away. The only way I would look to fire him is if someone like McVay or Shannahan was available (which like 90% of other teams would want them too)

He didn't actually make the playoffs. We had several opportunities to clinch on our own and crapped the bed. We had to wait for Atlanta to win to get us in. We had the tie breaker in a poo division that had 3 teams finish 8-9. 

If you go back and look at the games we played, we weren't a dominant offensive team under him as an OC. We beat the Jets 13-7 and barely beat the packers after they failed to convert multiple red zone trips. We relied heavily on converting 4th downs. DC was also extremely slow at recognizing trends in game and was really lacking with clock management. 

Was there progress this year? Yes. But most of it was on the defensive side of the ball. Our offense was stagnant with a couple of exceptions. Any improvement from Bryce was minimal and he kept insisting on XL over Coker, and even RB distribution instead of going with the hot hand. 

He may be building something, but I don't think we've seen enough to know what that is. It could go either direction. If he insists on being OC, then without a noticeable improvement, yes he needs to be on the hot seat like any OC would. The more jobs you take on the more you have to be judged on. I think he would have a longer leash if he hired a true OC and just focused in being HC.

Getting swept by the rebuilding Saints with a rookie 2nd round pick behind center is unforgivable.

Guys let's not lose sight of the goal here.

Ironically Dave Canales buddy Pete Carroll is a good example. In his later years with the Seahawks they "made the playoffs". Never went anywhere. Pete left town with his best friend Geno Smith and immediately proceeded to faceplant. Meanwhile the Seahawks hired a new coach traded away their best WR and signed Sam Darnold and they are your Super Bowl champions.

Just because we backed our way into the playoffs going winless against New Orleans and barely splitting with the imploding Bucs for a 4-6 record in the last 10 games with the 26th passing offense does not mean we should be having a parade.

Dave Canales team needs to take control of the division in 2026. Simple and plain.

Someone knows he needs help. That is why Bevell.
But this is the same deal as it has been for three years, with or without Canales. 

I put most of the stagnant offense on the inability of the passing offense to force the defense to respect it.  I have an opinion on what was at the root of that.
 

You can do chicken or egg, OC or QB, with the reason for not going downfield much but we need to have that be a threat at any given time. If it isn’t we are gonna have the same type of results we have been getting.

Making the playoffs as quickly as he did after what he inherited was impressive.  He inherited the worst team in the league with a depleted roster, missing draft picks, and a QB who just had a historically bad rookie season.  I mean it's hard to get much worse.  I wish he would hire someone to call plays because I think that's his weakness, but maybe he can get better there as he gets experience.
