Has Hurney ever picked a bust in round 1?

Hurney's always picked solid in the 1st round. That said, he did trade away a 1st for Everette Brown, which isn't quite the same thing, but has to be considered.

I think what it shows is that Hurney knows how to pick from the top-tier available players, which is a good thing considering our current situation. I'm confident whoever we take will be the player we need him to be, regardless of position.

Hurney has typically drafted pretty safely, but has typically been in the mid to late first round territory. This is what scares me. If you look at a guy that you would DEFINATELY take at a #7 spot for instance, like a Dareus or Peterson, it's kind of a catch 22 because you are #1 and you may have to reach for a top 10 talent, all because you were sitting at #1.

I personally like Peterson. They keep saying that a CB has never gone #1, but this draft is a very unique one in the sense that there will prob. be no free agency prior to, no contract extensions, uncertainty with personnel all over, no clear-cut #1, etc. Hurney likes safe picks, and him and Green are both pretty safe, but with everything they have invested already at WR, PP might have to be the guy. Dareus and his tree trunk arms would look good in a Panthers uni too though.

    • Sellers is absolutely one to keep an eye on. Could be the next Cam or could be the next Anthony Richardson. Curious to see how he has progressed come this fall.
    • I think Texas could go 0-12 and he would still go #1 based on his name and traits like you say.  But nusselman and sellers may be actually better qbs.    Man if bryce stinks it up this season its looking like a damn good year to swap out qbs.  Sellers highlights are just fuging jaw dropping
    • I mean, the kid comes from a wealthy family. It's not like he needs the money. He has a ton of potential now we get to see what he can do as a starter. Everyone penciling him in as the #1 overall pick is putting the cart way before the horse. It's 5% because of his talent and what he's showing on the field and 95% because his last name is Manning. And if he is what he's hyped to be the Texas coaching staff needs to be answering some tough questions about why the kid wasn't on the field sooner. Ewers was a good college QB but he's definitely not a "keep a future #1 overall pick waiting" type of college QB. Only getting one season out of a top NFL talent because you chose to keep him buried behind a borderline NFL talent is just coaching negligence. Not starting him as a true freshman? Yeah, I get that. But on year two if the kids is what he's hyped to be you gotta wish Ewers well elsewhere and turn the page.
