Why is XL a bust and need 2 be replaced but Young gets 1000 chances to prove he may be avg?

Also let's be real XL was a 2nd rnd wr. They just wanted the 5th opp if it took time for him 2 develop so they went up 1 spot. Maybe if they didn't trade the farm to get Young they could have got or had a better wr...

XL has really not done himself any favors from a multitude of angles. Just have to be honest about that.

That being said. The inconsistency in standards for certain players on the roster is certainly impossible to ignore I agree. And even at times last year rookie TMac was a scapegoat by some Panthers fans for not being able to singlehandedly will us to victories with Bryce Young throwing him passes.

Omar Cooper Jr had a great pro day yesterday and we have a 30-visit with him.

Concepcion is a Charlotte native and could be more what Canales is looking for, but the desire for a shifty WR has some legs to it.

I think either would complete our WR room, but prefer selecting a WR until the 3rd round or later. Let’s find out Jalen McMillan or Tez Johnson.

I've said this a few times in the past few weeks, WR just cannot be on the board for us in the 1st round this year or we're just setting ourselves up for a problem in a couple of years.

As it is, we're already looking at needing to do extensions for T-Mac and Coker (assuming they both progress as we all expect) in possibly the same offseason, or at worst, just one year apart.  Adding another 1st round WR to that mix who will be eligible for an extension in the same time frame is basically already announcing that at least one of the 3 of them will not be on the team in 4 years time.

I realize you want to maximize your team's ability every season, but using a 1st round pick on a player you either know will be sent out 4 years from now and/or they will push out another young player you're really high on (Coker), just would be a poor use of current assets.

Just look at how much it screwed over the Bengals to have to pay Burrow, Chase, and Higgins all in such a short time frame, and at least one of them was a QB.

The only way I'm okay drafting a WR in the 1st this year is if we're then flipping Coker for say, a 2nd round pick.  And I don't want to trade Coker, nor do I think anyone would give us that high of a pick for him right now either.

The Bengals analogy is a great one!

Basically would be if XL (Higgins) and Bryce (Burrow) actually worked.  (And Coker is basically Tyler Boyd).  If Bryce and XL had shown that level of talent and results.
The only way I would be comfortable with drafting a WR in the 1st is if we had actually brought in competition to replace Bryce this offseason and prepared to trade XL before training camp.

A 1st round WR would be a head scratcher because Bryce should be feeding Tmac and Coker as much as possible.  The only positive with XL is the fact that he seems fine with being the decoy receiver.

I'm probably way off base, but Cooper's draft profile reminds me too much of XL, at least the weaknesses.

KC I could understand a "little" since he's different than what we have. But Cooper just seems like more of the same IMO.

Weaknesses

  • Inefficient getting in and out of intermediate breaks.
  • Average contested-catch success for his physical profile.
  • Needs quicker recognition and adjustment on underthrows.
  • Acceleration out of the stem is average.
  • Disappointing effort and physicality when asked to run block.

I'm not sold on their ability to do much of anything. The only FO person I have faith in is Tillis. Dan and Dave still has some work to do to impress me or give me the faith that they can turn the team around.

I also am good with Eager and the analytics dudes behind the scenes last year.  I think they get more credit for last years draft than Dan honestly.

I'm undecided on him and that group right now. Its going to take a few seasons to see if they contribute anything meaningful to the process.
