I mean, I get the limited starting reps, but Freeling isn't the quintessential project, he just needs to refine his game. Many consider him the best pro-ready LT in this draft and expect him to start from day one. He's better than Walker right now. Yeah, I said it.

Who the hell thinks he's pro ready???? I can't think of a single person who thinks that legitimately. Everyone who does mocks and scouts thinks he needs to sit one or two years with good oline coaches

Yeah but again is any of this urgent this season ? Could this not have been addressed in FA’s or the Draft next year ?

at what point are we expected to see the fruits of all the investments in the o line ?

these are questions I’ll revisit if the offense is still bottom half next year.  Just feels like a lot of meat left on the bone with that pick

Look, I liked Lemon a ton, but do you really think Bryce Young can lead an offense to the top half of the league with his arm, even if we give him Lemon? I just don’t.
Without any running game ten 1st WRs wouldn’t help us much.
If either of those tackles misses time we have nothing. No running game, no protection, no production.

This is the most practical direction we could have taken. All IMO of course.

Ngl, I can see why everyone hyped Bain despite his short arms, but guys like Campbell always come to mind when it comes to linemen.  It matters.  Campbell was complete ass.  Bain will have to overcome a TON to compensate for those arms, which is why I’m not that mad TB got him.  But yeah…

Campbell has a really weird build altogether. Not just the short arms but he's really narrow across the shoulders too. Overall, it just leads to a really short reach and a narrow base. You better have flawless technique and really quick feet to make up for it and he showed neither as a rookie.

There is A LOT of talent on the board for R2. I know we’re eying Rodriguez and I truly hope we land him.

If we don’t though, there are a lot of guys that would start this year and make an impact.

McCoy (if we want another CB with major injury red flags)

Terrell

McDonald

Rodriguez

Hill

Stukes

Golday

Haulcy

Scott

Hunter

Parker

Lemon was a hard one to think we’d passed on but I’m not opposed to it if there was a better player available.

I just question how another o linemen was seen as the most impactful player we could get at 19.  I hate to say it but even an elite LT isn’t the missing piece for the offense’s struggles. Bryce limitations shouldn’t limit us from drafting anyone imo, that’s just not acceptable. I’m not mad at the wr room currently, it just requires a lot positive growth from xl, Coker, tmac and horn.

we’re in unison about the offense’s ceiling given the signal caller, with that being said and known, maybe invest some high draft capital into the side of the ball that’s been steadily improving with the least amount of investments.

If we move up for someone who can make an instant impact on D I'm ok with it for now

Okay there is a difference there: I view it as if the job is to catch up to what we were. Which is what you say. Struggle. When this Icky injury happened it set us back from that level. Right there. I feel like without at the least being at the OL level we were at with Icky, it’s certain regression. We have questions about the RBs too (and we Must be able to run it).
We definitely could not fix the offense to the level we want if they go backwards up front.

It looks like that is handled pretty well and okay let’s move forward now with a solid base. So now find Temo Lemon and make lemonade.
FWIW you could find post upon post of me saying no 1st round WR but also one post saying I would waive that if he fell. We do need someone like him.  Hard to find, I know. But he might be out there.

The other part about Bryce should not limit us, well that was hat the team signed up for drafting a historically small QB that lacked any physical traits you would call plus at the NFL level. We’re just stuck with it. Reality.

And every year knocked out of the playoffs by an inferior team.

Lmao the only inferior team they were ever knocked out by was the Rags. Panthers and Lightning won cups, when we lost to Boston they were the top team in the east. We’d kill for the Panthers to make the playoffs and win at least one game every year for 7 straight years. Canes are an incredible franchise right now

I would like Thieneman still, and I’m trying to figure out how Freeling fits considering we signed the guy the Packers released too.  I’d expect they view Freeling as a starter.  So unless they plan on moving on from Moton, it’s less value than Thieneman who would be an instant starter.

Well Ickey could easily miss the start of the season or more and if he is able to come back he could start with Freeling. Packers guy’s contract is fine for a swing tackle and good insurance if Ickey doesn’t come back this year, which is very possible

    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
    • I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
