The Icky knee didn't explode draft

1- WR Makai Lemon(I'm not soo sure, but I think he was my BPA, no clue how panthers felt)

2- DT Lee Hunter(same)

3- CB Daylen Everette(Dan likes dawgs, he's one)

4- LB Bryce Boettcher ( good solid RAS guy leader)

5- C Sam Hecht(same)

5- S Zakee Wheatley(same)

7- QB Garrett Nussmeier(why not?)

Any better?, it doesn't feel that way.  plus highset 20/20 no one had Nuss in the late 7th. Maybe Dillion is pick or the rumors about KC were right.

My 2 favorite picks, since you didn't ask?

3. Brazzell II.  A 1000 yard WR with 4.37 speed and checks all the boxes for a Z Wide Receiver.  IN THE THIRD ROUND!!!

5.  Sam Hecht.  I think he will take over as the starter at some point this season and never look back.  IN THE FIFTH ROUND.

Runner Up:  2. Hunter:  We were targeting a DT early in this draft because we did very little to replace Robinson in free agency.  Hunter was our guy and he will start.

In addition to that, you got a starting tackle that should man one side of the new OL we will build for Bryce's second contract.

A starting WR, offensive lineman, defensive lineman and possible Offensive tackle (at some point during this year from this draft will start.  UNREAL.

In addition, I don't doubt that Wheatley (5th round) takes the FS job by next year and Lee III is Jackson's replacement in 2027.

Finally, even Kuwatch should be a special teams demon and LB depth.

Last year's draft was so good it was ugly.  This one will turn out to be uglier.  No offense Basbear--this ain't about you.

Good stuff per normal, I was just think a healthy Icky didn't change the draft like I thought it would.

I agree this is first draft were I think with decent odds, all 7 could end up starting for the Panthers within 2 years...

If Nick Scott helps Wheatley, I think he could start this year, but do you help a guy taking your job??

They're blowing their own brains out if they give Young a second contract.

Honestly they probably still make the Freeling pick.

Moton is on his last legs.

Agree. Is Lemon/Tet/Coker that much better than Coker/Tet/Brazzell because I had trouble covering the LT position. The draft just fell wrong.   No way can we ignore the tackle position.

Loosely related thoughts ..

I really do feel for Icky but if he had been healthy no way we take Freeling.

I think the big extension he was in line for and was getting, would have been an overpay. So in a way this might be a break. Depending on Freeling working out.

If I were offered an even money bet on whether he returns to form or is a shadow of what he was, I am going with shadow. I just wouldn’t count on him for anything if it was going to cost market value. G, RT, whatever. To me, he needs to sign an incentive laden short term deal that doesn’t leave us on the hook if he can’t cut it. Go from there.

He caught a horrible bad break but at least got 17.5 mil as a consolation prize. Or 16.5 or whatever it is.
