Never understood the hate for him.

Best wishes to him for the future. It's almost unheard of for someone to have a forty year career in journalism nowadays, that speaks volumes.

I didn’t hate him and am happy for him.  That said I think some of the disdain came from the frequency of his cringeworthy questions. Didn’t happen all the time but it was definitely prevalent.

ESPN’s Carolina Panthers reporter David Newton announced his retirement today.

He may have had his faults, but I appreciate a long, well-respected career. Wishing Newton the best of luck in retirement (even if everyone else is joyful of his exit lol).

I don't "hate" him but he is a terrible journalist.

And you have to keep in mind that a lot of us can remember how Darin Gantt covered the team.  Say what you want about Gantt as a person, but he was a damn good journalist.  It never felt like Newton even tried to improve.  And man he used to ask the dumbest questions.

The fact that his BS was called out by several of the athletes he's covered speaks volumes too.

Nicest thing I can say about Dave is that he got in early on a small market, and he was ahead of his time in that he's been a sensationalist hack since before Twitter existed.

Really? You don't understand the hate.

The guy was truly as incompetent as it gets.

Here is one of many examples of his incompetence: https://awfulannouncing.com/nfl/espn-reporter-apologizes-insensitive-question-xavier-legettes-father.html
