The "No Cocky Bastards" Rule...

Mr. Scot

so all this time the panther filter was a lie? how can I go on living?

By the end of this off-season, I have a strong feeling many people who call themselves Panthers fans are going to commit fan-suicide and bail on the team. Hell, enough have already since the bandwagon broke down.

Some of them might even post here.

Yeah what was Steve Smith?

Keyshawn

Like I said in another thread you need some players like that on you're team.

A guy who got here before John Fox.

And Keyshawn was Dan Henning's idea. You saw how that worked out.

i think WRs are held to a different standard.

all good WRs are diva's. they all want the ball every play and will cause a stink when they don't get it. all of them think they can win the game if you get the ball to them. all of them have a little showboat in them and they all are cocky. imo, that attitude is needed for the position. they need it every play of every game.

Or there was never a stupid rule like that. Character issues that got them in trouble with the law yeah thats Richardsons. But being cocky and arrogant nope just dont see it.

Hell, some of the biggest heroes in American sports were anything but choirboys... Mantle, Ruth, Marino, Chamberlain...

And I think the "character" and "up-standing citizen" crap is just that- a load of crap. As long as they win.

What about Keyshawn? He behaved better in Charlotte than he did in his previous 2 teams and he put up the same numbers in his season with the Panthers as he did his whole career. He got paid to come here and perform, and he did.

Sorry rayzor, this is a generalization. I never heard of Marvin Harrison being a diva. Moose wasn't a diva. I wouldn't call Hines Ward a Diva.

I think there's been a recent trend of receivers with attitudes, but they get away with it, as the media holds them to a different standard. Get a D-Lineman talking trash, like Peppers or Jenkins, and they get handled with disdain by the sports writers and eventually Front Offices.

    • Was just explaining this to some dummy named Willy in another thread. I think he was just smoking’ too much cheese.  This has been going on for ages. Trent dilfer got all the ladies and threw just as many TDs as interceptions. This was the more violent era of football. The soft mfrs wanna see the passing TDs but the truth is that ain’t what ultimately wins football games. It’s a STRONG D, and an unstoppable run game, with some passes to keep the defense honest, if a for a TD great. in fact I would venture to say that the two panthers super bowls consisted of the same except cam threw more tds than interceptions and could run like Jamal Lewis and priest Holmes. its a tale as old as time. Something all ball knowers understand.
    • This team just traded a 2nd round pick for Bradley Chubbs. Edge, Miami Dolphins.
    • Ngl, as good as I felt about us after winning yesterday, when they showed the top NFC teams on SNF, I realized what a crazy year this is.  The NFC seems uncommonly top heavy.  As of today, we aren’t anywhere near playoff positioning, which at 5-4 seems very, very weird compared to most years.  I know things will shake out further as the season goes on and it likely won’t look the same, but I have the feeling it’s one of those years that you’ll need like 11 wins to get in as a wildcard. seems very like a very pantherish thing to rebound this year and that’s what it would take.
