The National Football Post reports new Panthers OC Rob Chudzinski’s playbook is roughly 900 pages in length.

As a result, Post writer Dan Pompei believes the Panthers would be forced to do "some serious dumbing down" of their offense if they draft Cam Newton. It's hard to believe any quarterback could ever fully grasp a 900-page playbook, but it would be next to impossible for a rookie. Maybe Chudzinski should take this as an opportunity to do some much needed simplifying.

With a 900 page playbook, can any quarterback actually play and/or want to play for the Panthers. Only a handful of guys off the top of my head such as Manning, Luck, and Ponder would have the desire, will, and knowledge to learn a 900 page playbook.

The transition from college to pros at QB is the thing the people on this board seem to know the least about. Chud has earned respect in the league by using his playbook--not simplifying it. If he has to cut, simplify, and add pictures, we get another Davidson.

With the real possibility of not having an off season or preseason, why would you draft a QB who has 14 games of D-1 as a starter in a simple offense? Drafting Newton makes no sense unless you are agreeing to tank the season for the long-term hope that he becomes great, and Hurney said that only 44% of first overall QBs drafted since 1998 became consistent starters--not pro bowlers--starters.

It's 900 pages, and no, it's certainly not "ridiculous" by any stretch.

Chud could have a bigger impact on who we draft number one than any of us think.

If he doesn't think Cammy Cam and his juice are smart enough to grasp the playbook, we could very well see us go another route because of who Chud wants behind center.

Chud's offense requires intelligence. Certainly not Cam's strong suit.

Its probably just variations and sets of very similar plays.

Its probably 50 or 60, at most 100 plays, ran out of different formations and different motions. And each page probably represents these plays. Also, it is probably different plays playing to different QB's strengths. IE. If we drafted Newton, as opposed to a Mallet type.

And it take ANY QB several year to fully grasp ANY playbook.

I wouldn't look too much into it.

Anybody could learn it if they have the right coaches & ambition to learn it. Sounds like quite a task though, 900 pages is crazy.

Any rook is going to struggle with NFL playbooks, especially Norv Turner/Chuds.

There is a ton of motions, formations, who is the hot read on certain plays etc.

I have no doubt that every QB in this draft would struggle with it no matter what.

As said before 900 is not all that uncommon. I dont think him or any OC would expect a QB to grasp the whole playbook in 3 months. Not even Manning could do that. Why do you think people say it takes 3 years for most OCs to install there system with a team.
