Clausen not rolling over on being the starter

i hope he does enough in TC and preseason to garner legit interest in him.

i don't want him to start in a regular season with the sole rationale being to boost his trade value. imo, it isn't worth newton not getting the starts if he has a solid grasp on the playbook.

The reality is the backup is one injury away from starting and the last few years should tell us that we almost always need more than one QB starter to make it through the season. Smart fans should be hoping Clausen improves a bunch this year especially if he ends up starting at some point. And our history would suggest he will.

Like I've said before, I really hope JC betters himself and becomes a starter.

I really wanted him to do well his rookie season, but it didn't happen. Now that Cam is here, I would much rather Cam succeed and be our franchise guy than JC.

I do however hope we hold onto JC, much like the eagles with Kolb. We should groom him, keep working with him, and have him be a solid back up for Cam. That, or he is a insurance policy in the event Cam doesn't pan out, or Cam gets hurt.

And if JC shows he has the ability to be a starter, we could eventually, down the road, perhaps get a 1st round pick from a team with a need.

The seahawks have supposedly offered a 1st rounder to the eagles for Kolb.

So who knows, maybe JC ends up being a major success. I certainly hope so.

"A quarterback who is willing to fire away is called a gunslinger. Clausen was a holster."

I agree that he will get way better over time, maybe starter material for another team in the future. Keep him and let him mature into something worth trading.

Sorensen's best line was when he implied Clausen was a pocket passer and could not "make something out of nothing" during a broken play like Cam Newton can/will. Cam will provide much more instant gratification, which will please the fans...for a while.

    • I think the qualification has changed over time though. A deep ball play used to take 4 to 6 seconds for the receiver to get to that spot on the field. Now a receiver can be there in 2.5. That's less time than most QBs have to set and throw. In my mind a deep route takes time to develop. A crossing route and a deep route can't take the same amount of time at full speed. You can have 4 deep balls on the same drive,  almost 5 if you do 5 20 yard throws goal line to goal line. That doesn't even make sense when you say it out loud.
    • The sad part is it looks manicured enough that he's aware it's running away from him.  Also, I just wanted to give you some fun loving grief on King Haynes today having a chance to throw a game winning TD, and was wildly errant, and ultimately picked off to end the game.  So happy I won't have to hear anything else about The Golden Calf of Bristol lite ever again watching college football.
    • I just think Panthers believe in Bryce far more than the fans do and he is most likely going to be the QB at least the next two seasons. the real shot of us moving from Bryce is not getting an extension, till then they are going to give him every chance to succeed and I just want to win.
