I remember Rivera saying that week 3 is going to be their mock game week and they will prepare that week like they would during the regular season. so it actually makes sense to have the starter named by then so that that person can prepare in earnest as the starter

Cam will be the week 1 starter. Rivera knows Claussen won't play well looking over his shoulder and won't want to create the inevitable conflict. They sink or swim the next few years with Cam anyway.

IMO, they should let Clausen start. Don't see why the media is so eager to throw Cam out there. I don't recall Sam Bradford starting day one.

Maybe they're picking the starter early to go ahead and get the majority of the reps instead of having to split it 50/50 between two guys. If they think they know who it's gonna, go ahead and give them more reps with the 1s
