Interesting take on our DTs

Both of these men will have this season and potentially not much more to grow into their roles. I'm sure DT is on Marty's list of positions to draft for. Since about 50% of your picks are busts, I'd guess he might take 2 late rounders during the 2012 draft class. If neither can figure out how to get off their blocks better, one will most likely be cut from the team prior to the end of training camp next year.

I'm not overly big on either of these two, I just hope one of them can figure out how to play the game.

Not going to make another thread on it but our DTs are not the biggest issue with this team.

The saints have 4 DT's many of you would rather have over our own yet we gashed them for 7.4 ypc and they got 3.6 ypc

Passing stats, sacks whatever you want to use will not be able to isolate the problem to our DT's. They are the lowest paid players on our D as they should be. Problem is some of you guys expect superstar play out of our DTs but don't hold any of our other defensive players accountable for anything.

As a whole, all things considered I really believe our D is over achieving(2 of our best players out for year, and our biggest offseason signing from another team on D out for the year).

I swear you could take any other 4-3 teams DT combo away from them and replace them with ours and not get the results you guys are hoping for.

With the injuries we have had and just how young our D is overall you can't expect them to carry us to victory.

Our offense on the other hand has a very veteran line, that's damn good btw. superstar Steve smith, 2 good experienced tight ends, a top combo of running backs and a developing young star in Cam.

Blame our pootty ass special teams for our losses. And if you really want to be one player/position away from overcoming our special team suckage add a # 2 receiver.

Please save me the our offense is not our problem argument, cuz it's not but it could be our solution to overcoming if we had a competent threat at # 2 receiver.

Fua is slow off the snap- or he was against Chicago when I got to rewatch most of it.

Also, both DT's they're used differently and that will skew the perspective a bit. There was one play against Chicago where McClain exploded off the ball, split defenders and rerouted Forte to a waiting LB, but you'll never see that on a stat sheet. McClain is here to penetrate, Fua is here to be a wall and IMO there's a reason there were 30 picks between them.

Overall I'm happy with both, but excited about TC.

Just wanted to point out that a big part of our 7.4 ypc was a long run by Williams off of an option. Thats not as much the Saints DT's as it is their de's, outside linebackers, safeties etc...

I'm glad you understand this,if everyone applied that same logic to our defense as a whole then they would see our DT's are not our main problem.

I think the best thing we can look at in all of this is that they are only rookies and they can and probably will improve alot. Fua is a solid player, but Mcclain has more outbursts of potential in the games. Fua goes mostly unnoticed because hes a slow moving toilet clogging run stuffer.

.

No offense, because you obviously care about the team; but, enough with excuses. These are professional players.

Excuse 1:

They are not the highest paid players on the team.

Excuse 2:

They are too young

Excuse 3:

They are not superstars

Excuse 4:

I bet the other teams DTs would.....

Excuse 5:

With all of our injuries......

Excuse 6:

Blame the special teams

It all comes down to very simply:

1. can teams run up the middle, yes.

2. can teams run up the middle at will, yes.

3. is there any pressure up the middle on the pass rush, no.

4. can the defense get off the field on 3rd down, no

5. can the defense get a stop when it needs to, no.

Even with Davis and Beason back from injury at full speed and both of those are very big ifs at the moment, all of those things would still be true.

I am not saying that the Fua and Mcclain can't improve, they will. What I'm saying is, even improved, they don't scare any offense.

That's my opinion. Very good defenses have very good DTs. Bad ones, don't.
