There are many needs...

we've picked up plenty of linebackers recently and when beason returns this wont be high priority. i can understand RT, especially if there is a chance of getting matt kalil.

Our run defense is beyond garbage. we need DT's and we need them now. Fua is a joke and a bust and ron edwards aint going save the line by himself. now if we get someone with first round talent up their to draw a double team. it could be something formidable.

As far as CB, munnerlyn is too short. we get a team with two tall recievers and we're screwed.

we haven't picked up anyone who can be a reliable starter at the Will. that is the biggest priority on defense.

pretty sure you are wrong about DTs, but whatever. we would be better off picking up a DT that knows what he's doing and has experience rather than drafting another and hoping that he doesn't take a couple years to grow into the job like most DTs taken, even in the first. if there is another guy like suh in the draft, sure, but that isn't going to happen. if we want someone that can make an immediate impact in the dline interior, you don't want to draft someone. you pick up someone with experience.

munnnerlyn gets the job done. he's like smitty and plays a lot bigger than he is. his height isn't the issue that people make it out to be.

I would definitely go with RT and OLB in the draft IF the FA DT class is good and Hogan shows promise (if he plays this season). With Gamble/Butler/Munnerlyn/Hogan, I think we can be set at CB especially if we can get a penetrating DT. With the injuries we've had at LB, it shows that you can never have enough quality LBs and an elite RT would be great for Cam if Otah can't come back or is hurt again next year. It hurts this year in that we will have a pick in the 6-10 range but there is no sure-fire must-have DT talent like Dareus in this year's draft.
dareus wasn't a sure-fire must have DT.

the only one there has been for years is suh.

i agree with the rest, though.

false.

when edwards gets back, a rotation of him, fua, and mcclain should be formidable.

I agree with a lot of the mixed comments here. Our ST needs better blocking and much better coaching. I know this won't happen but I'd like to see a ST Coaching change in the offseason. Even with better blocking, I still think that Goodson has looked better on returns than anyone on the team this season.

At DT: I think that the presense of Edwards will make our interior and outside pass rush better.

OLB: Well this season is done.... But I do wait improvement. What a great time for a bye, maybe it will give our LB'ers time to recover from injuries.

I think the offense will be just fine if Cam continues his development and Gettis comes back strong. Thus, the overwhelming majority of next year's draft and free agent signings need to address the defensive side of the ball and special teams. They both are laughable at this point...

I agree with rayzor for the most part about his assessment of team needs. I'm not really worried about the CBs like many of you are. We have a pretty solid secondary, we just aren't getting enough pressure on the QB. If we had a presence up the middle that could rush the QB and stop the run, then we would have something there.

in my opinion, our team needs are:

DT

LB

WR

RT

in that order. As much as I love TD, I really really do, I just don't know how well he'll handle ANOTHER torn ACL. we need a solid backup plan in his absence. Not to mention that beason went down with a torn achillies, somethign guys rarely, if ever, return to original form from. LB has suddenly become an issue.

I'd say WR is the most important to position on offense to fill. our offense is stout. we look damn good there. a second WR would only make us bettter. Byron bell is probably not the long term solution at RT, but he looks solid, as do two guys we have on IR right now, Geoff Schwartz and gary williams. I know gettis is on IR too, but i am not as convinced that he will be the #2 guy we need going forward. I love gettis, don't get me wrong, I just don't know if he'll be as explosive post injury, or if he could take the reigns if smitty retires.

DT is a priority, but still think it should be in FA that we address it.

i'd switch WR and RT around. making sure that cam is protected is more improtant than giving him added weapons, imo. the more time you give him, the better he will do. it just sucks that otah can't be counted on.

that said, i wouldn't be upset if we drafted someone like blackmon or jeffery.

According to Footballsfuture.com, of the featured FA DTs available, there's only one good pass-rushing DT, Jason Jones of Tennessee. The other good DTs available are more 3-4 NTs, which I could actually see us going after if Rivera really does want to go with a hybrid look. Those guys are Antonio Garay of SD (could see Rivera going after this guy since he has familiarity with him), Sione Pouha of NYJ and Aubrayo Franklin of NO (on a 1-year deal, haven't heard much from him this season). The rest look to be veterans or journeyman.
